New York Showcase, Act II

Little known fact: today's Albany Stakes is the third leg of the "New York State Triple Crown".

When last seen. many in today's field were racing in the NY Derby at Finger Lakes, won by Twisted Tom (8-5). He's back, with a switch to Javier Castellano for the Chad trained favorite.

But we're taking Broken Engagement (5-2), who needed that Derby effort, gets a significant seven-pound weight shift, has worked well since and reunites winning winning rider Paco at a favorably longer trip.

Taking Broken Engagement to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing him with the favorite and price shot Can You Diggit (8-1).

No Time to Be Riskaverse

Great feature race, the Riskaverse for 3YO fillies that never have won a stakes at a mile or more.

Taking Chubby Star who's exiting the key Lake George that produced two next out winners including repeater Proctor's Ledge in the Lake Placid last weekend.

DePaz trainee can rate and can kick, and is suited by mini-turnback yo one mile and switch to Robby Albarado, who must leave, find a pocket, and wait for the right moment.

Taking Chubby Star to win at 4-1 or greater and boxing exactas with speedy Cherry Lodge (7-2) and very promising also-eligible, Rubilinda (5-2)

John’s Call, a Spa Horse of Renown

Can't believe I'm writing this or that it might actually happen but there seems to be some pace signed on in today's 1-5/8 miles featured John's Call at the Spa.

Whether that pace develops or not, or whether the rider uses his modicum of tactical speed, we believe Renown (10-1) have more than a puncher's chance to upset.

A good third in this race last year, he returns with similar spacing and a switch to Julien Leparoux whose few Spa runners have acquitted themselves well. Whatever the tactics, the decisions are Julien's to make one he leaves the barrier.

Taking Renown to win at 5-1 or greater, and key-boxing exactas with Nessy (4-1) and Red Rifle (9-5), both getting important weight concessions from the choice.
