Chalk or Dare

Two overnight stakes are featured today at Belmont Park and since one boasts an entry listed at 1-5 on the early line, we’ll opt for the Mom’s Command Stakes for three year-old fillies in which the favorite hopefully just might be vulnerable.

The interesting filly is the ship-in Daring Reality, a price shot at 8-1 on the early line. She has won her only start over Big Sandy, the flat-mile Wanda Stakes here at the summer meet, is 2-for-2 at the distance and comes back with good spacing for barn that’s profitable in non-graded stakes events. Her versatile running style might come in very handy in this spot.

David Cohen is having a good Belmont Fall and trainer Cathal Lynch is a worthy 21% efficient with shippers.

Taking Daring Reality to win at 5-1 or greater and key box her in exotics with Miss Valentine (8-5), tough luck last time Draw It (4-1) and Shared Heart (7-2) who appears set for a successful stretchout attempt.

Running Totals: (938) 294-191-132 Total Dollar Return: $2,025.10 [win selections only]

By the Shores of Infield Pond

Today's featured John Hettinger for state-bred fillies and mares going nine furlongs boils down to how much you were impressed by Gitchee Goomie's (8-5) victory in the Yaddo up north. If you have the ability, check out the video...Can't win, can't win, can't win, maybe, maybe to never in doubt. Just kidding about that.

This mare was absolutely buried and I still don't know how Alan Garcia extricated himself and the filly but get her to the outside he did and she closed with a whoosh--not quite Winter Memories, but not bad. She likes this course, handles the distance, in short she will be a tough out.

Taking Gitchee Goomie to win, no price restrictions and using Exclusive Scheme (10-1) second and third in the exotics.

Running Totals: (937) 294-190-132 Total Dollar Return: $2,025.10 [win selections only] {Saturday Results Not Included}

Fun in the Sun

Going to Calder for today's co-featured eighth race since we analyzed the last six races from the South Florida track for Saturday in the Equiform Betting Guide (for more information, see

For this exercise we're looking at the listed Stage Door Betty Stakes for fillies and mares going two turns. And, finally, Successful Appeal (3-1) has gotten a needed freshening. After a strong effort behind Awesome Maria this winter at Gulfstream, this filly has been going at it without a break, until today, that is.

She's fits well with these fillies, may have a tactical edge, loves the surface, exits a key race, and has the signature one-mile breeze from the Pleasa barn. Time for making amends beneath Jurado.

Taking Successful Song to win, no price restrictions.
