When You See a Possible Gift Horse, Take It

In this game, when things look too easy, that’s the time to worry, so don’t say we never gave you a heads up. Now this is Keeneland and the distance is one mile. And I’m thinking “who cares if he’s a six year old returning from a layup in a Grade 1?” We’re talking about Court Vision (8-5) here. And this is Lexington and the trip is one mile, so how’s he supposed to get beat.

Court Vision’s done this before, and so has trainer Rick Dutrow, and so has Robby Albarado, who will reunite with Court Vision this afternoon. Why should results be any different.

Court Vision have always run his career best races on this course, at this trip. He’s won fresh, training as serious as a heart attack, and none of the competition has been tested under today’s conditions the way this G1 winner has nor have they had his success. I think I recognize a gift horse when I see one.

Taking Court Vision to win at 3-2 or greater, boxing him in the exacta with talented turf miler Society’s Chairman, and keying him first and second in the exotics with price shots Tourallure (15-1) and Bim Bam (12-1), including Society's Chairman.

Running Totals: (842) 267-174-115 Total Dollar Return: $1,860.50 [win selections only]

Evening Jewel? Amen I Say

Today’s Keeneland feature is the Grade 1 Vinery Madison for fillies and mares at 7 furlongs. He early line favorite is Amen Hallelujah (2-1), a good second to the streaking Hilda’s Passion and a certifiable synthetic lover. The problem, however, is that she tends to react to big efforts--and her Inside Info placing was a big effort.

That’s why our interests will rest with Evening Jewel (5-2), with a synthetic slate of (8) 3-4-0 and the winner of her only start over this ground. Trainer James Cassidy has a strong record in graded stakes, has pointed his filly toward this and has given her all the conditioning she needs going longer recently in Southern California. The turnback to 7 furlongs seems to suit her well as does the speedy race shape.

Taking Evening Jewel to win at 5-2 or greater and keying her first and second in multiples with defending Madison champion Dr. Zic (10-1), Amen Hallelujah, and Tremendamente Loca (20-1), whose lifetime best sprint effort came at today’s distance on this surface.

Running Totals: (841) 267-174-115 Total Dollar Return: $1,860.50 [win selections only]

Seeking Value on the Good Horse Circuit

The secondary allowances feature at Keeneland is a beauty, which is to say very competitive, difficult--and ripe for a score. Certainly no one can afford to take a short price.

All the top horsemen are in this group and America’s best riders, too. Today, our focus will be on Cat Park (8-1).

Coming off a Turf Decline Line where she made ground despite a hungry pace, she returns to the scene of one of her best previous lifetime performances on this course.

The spacing is right, as are the connections of Graham Motion and Rosie Napravnik. Yes, the outside post is a big obstacle, but that might help in the mutuel department.

Taking Cat Park to win at 6-1 or greater and keying her in exactas with Hailstone (8-1) and Shrimp Dancer (8-1).

Running Totals: (840) 267-174-115 Total Dollar Return: $1,860.50 [win selections only]
