Hallelujah, it’s Christine Daae

Good opportunity to beat one of the favorites on the Florida Derby undercard today at Gulfstream Park.

By virtue of her open-lengths victory in the Davona Dale, Amen Hallelujah (8-5) was made the favorite to take the nine furlong Bonnie Miss for Kentucky Oaks fillies.

Rick Dutrow’s filly is coming back uncharacteristically quick for this barn--three weeks--and that could make her vulnerable, especially as the 122-pound highweight.

A filly who appears just as talented, perhaps even more so, is Christine Daae (2-1), a lightly raced filly who’s developing beautifully for Patrick Biancone, who’s mentioned her in the same breath as his 1983 Horse of the Year, All Along, the first foreign based horse to achieve that honor.

Christine has a long way to go and today’s race is an important first step. She loves the surface, being 2-for-2 on this ground, a winner at the distance, and is becoming more professional with each start. There will be sufficient pace for her to run at here.

Taking Christine Daae to win at 2-1 or greater, an exacta box with Amen Hallelujah, and a 2x3 exacta and trifecta adding Crisp to the mix second and third.

Toulouse Lautrec Looks Big in This Spot

Another tough, closely matched small-field featured sprint, a non-winners of 4 optional 100K claimer. Two that have the best chance are Mor Chances (5-2), making his second start off a six-month layup for Rick Dutrow, switching to Ramon Dominguez and in for a claiming price for the first time.

But all those variables might not be good enough to defeat the early line favorite, Toulouse Lautrec (9-5), who improved markedly in his first start for Bruce Levine, earning a lifetime best figure in his 4-year-old debut. There might be more in that tank, especially considering Levine gave the lightly raced colt two months recovery time since that key race score.

Taking Toulouse Lautrec to win at 8-5 or greater and an exacta box with Mor Chances.

Weathering the Storm

Today’s feature at Aqueduct Race Track, the Polite Rebuff overnight stakes at a mile for older fillies and mares is fairly competitive for a small field, with speed to set the table, late and mid-race movers and runners versatile enough to do what it takes to win. Of those, Weathered (2-1) is our favorite.

When last seen the five year old was mare beaten just over a length in the 14-filly G2 Barbara Fritchie at Laurel Race Course despite finding herself in racing on the rail over the deep wet track, the winner rolling up to win on the far outside.

This 5 year old mare is versatile, talented enough to challenge graded fillies at 7 furlongs but strong enough to dominate the local track, with four wins in seven winter track starts, never off the board, and twice a winner at today’s trip. She’s meeting are sharp group but is fastest by definition with a class edge as well.

Taking Weathered to win, no price restrictions, and key-boxing her first and second in exactas with improving Starship Angel (2-1) and potential trip sitter, Extra Sharp (6-1).
