To Honor And Cash

Well, the piece de resistance, finally, and it’s a beauty. There are no secrets at this level, in this race, you know the stories by now. This race is deep and very, very contentious.

Soldat (9-5) is the “now horse,” one “if those if your life depended on it” kind of horses. Solid!

Dialed In (2-1) is gong to run better, you know that. He will get pace in this race; he’s finally training like his conditioner is serious about getting serious.

The workout on Stay Thirsty (8-1) has me baffled, maybe it has Pletcher baffled, too. Maybe, since it’s Pletcher, he’ll win anyway. At those odds he’s certainly value.

I know something else, To Honor And Serve will definitely run better but probably not as good as he’ll run in five more weeks. But at 4-1, given his obvious talent, the odds are fair.

I always hate to lose Johnny to another rival, but GG is a more than adequate replacement.

Taking To Honor And Serve to win at 3-1 or greater, keying him first and second in multiples with his rivals here, adding the nicely developing Arch Traveler (20-1) to the super exotic mix.

Running Totals: (839) 267-174-114 Total Dollar Return: $1,860.50 [win selections only]

Lightning in a Bridle

Sorry, but sometimes you just have to take what they give you. That’s the case in today’s feature Gulfstream Park Oaks, a.k.a. the Bonnie Miss in a previous life.

Normally, that would mean a filly like It’s Tricky (2-1), undefeated in three lifetime starts, including two around two turns. Further, she’s the fastest on the Equiform performance scale, by a considerable margin, and distributed her energy very efficiently last out, developing nicely right before your eyes.

Instead, however, we’ll opt for early line favorite R Heat Lightning (8-5) given a lights out performance over today’s racetrack. Grade 1 tough, she’s already a multiple G2 winner meeting a filly that has yet to be tested at this level.

Continuing to train well, her figures improved as distances lengthened last year, including a two turn placing in the BC Juvenile Fillies and no reason to believe that won’t be the case again today.

Taking R Heat Lightning to win, no price restrictions, keying her in the trifecta with Beso Grande (6-1), Island School (6-1) and It’s Tricky..

Running Totals: (838) 266-174-114 Total Dollar Return: $1,857.30 [win selections only]

Scout’s Honor

Pretty tricky Gulfstream feature, then 7-½ furlongs turf sprints figure to be just that, plus there are two entrants making their U.S. debuts for top turf and layup outfits.

The interest Americans are Almoradi (5-1), who’s really improved for Eddie Kenneally, and picking up Paco, the very speedy but feint of heart Just Playin Around (10-1), and Avenuesandalleyways (8-1) making his second start here.

But it’s Army Scout that’s really intriguing. Joe Allen owns this extremely well bred invader, now in the barn of Kiaran McLaughlin, sporting a series of good turf sprint lines in Europe, which often translates into successful U.S. milers, today’s distance.

Working bullets at his Palm Meadows base, McLaughlin taps Johnny Velazquez who can place the high quality runner wherever he wishes.

Taking Army Scout to win at 5-2 or greater and keying him first and second in the multiples with the three Americans listed above and Right One (8-1), making his U.S. debut for Christophe Clement. Both invaders are getting first-time Lasix.

Running Totals: (837) 266-174-114 Total Dollar Return: $1,857.30 [win selections only]
