The Real Deal

The final Grade 1 of the New York season is the Hopeful and it feature two exciting maiden winners.

Wine Police (5-2) was very impressive winning his only start here, earning an excellent figure with good energy distribution. Given the relation from pace to final figure is an indication that 7 furlongs should be within his scope second time out.

Unfortunately for this colt, he runs into Boys At Tosconova (8-5) who gives every indication that he is the real deal. His Equiform performance figure is the largest we’ve every seen for a juvenile maiden winner--by a lot.

Not getting fancy here, taking Boys At Tosconova to win, no price restrictions, and a cold exacta with Wine Police. Trifecta players can add Stay Thirsty (4-1) to their mix.

Running Totals: (725) 238-150-97 Total Dollar Return: $1,646.10 [win selections only]

Give Me Liberty

Today’s Spa feature is the G1 Spinaway for juvenile fillies going seven furlongs. Of the eight fillies entered, Todd Pletcher will saddle half of them, including the first, second and third choices. Instead, we’ll go the for gusto with Coax Liberty (15-1).

When last seen here, she was finishing a distant third with a game finish rally behind Limit Position, one of the most impressive young fillies we’ve seen this season.

Owning three races worth of experience, coming up to the added distance nicely, and with plenty of early gas here, she deserves a chance to upset the group after maintaining her sharpness with a brisk work at her Maryland base.

Taking Coax Liberty to win at 12-1 or greater and keying her in all money positions with all the Pletcher ladies.

Running Totals: (723) 237-150-97 Total Dollar Return: $1,643.50 [win selections only] {Saturday results not included}

There’s No Substitute for Quality

It doesn’t take a genius to figure that Quality Road, who was not at his sharpest when nailed by Blame in the shadow of the Whitney wire. He will make amends here.

And so we’ll take him to win with no price restrictions but since the odds will be prohibitive, the play is a straight exacta: Quality Road with late developing 4-year-old gelding Indian Dance (20-1), making second start off the layup and working well at his Laurel base.

Running Totals: (723) 237-150-97 Total Dollar Return: $1,643.50 [win selections only]
