Get the Cash with Revenue

Despite another small field, today’s co-featured Sky Beauty overnight stakes is an interesting, competitive heat where trips should make all the difference.

Even with five fillies, this race is not short of early speed which should give an advantage to tactical runners. That most likely will be Revenue (3-1), one of two uncoupled runners for Rick Dutrow.

After breaking her maiden by daylight for Lance Stokes at Presque Isle, she wound up in Dutrow’s shed and finished second while moving up in class and distance in one of these overnighters at Belmont Park.

Hitting the slip at the break, she got away last and found herself last in the early running--this after breaking her maiden on the lead. Despite the circumstances, the Exchange Rate filly showed enough courage to out finish all but the runaway winner.

Subsequently, she has worked very well over this, her home base, and picks up position conscious Rajiv Maragh, the team breaking from the pole in this short field. We look for her in a pocket-rocket performance.

Taking Revenue to win at 5-2 or greater.

Running Totals: (777) 248-161-107 Total Dollar Return: $1,729.10 [win selections only]

My Guess Is That Peppi Knows

It’s obvious to anyone with a set of past performances that Monsignor (8-5) will be a tough out in today’s overnight Cosmic Bob Stakes, shipping in for Todd Pletcher from Churchill. We’ve seen this act before. However, we believe he is likely to be overbet, odds on when they open the gate.

Instead, we’ll opt for the only sophomore that has winter track experience, Peppi Knows (4-1).

In this race replete with, and shaping up, for mid-race movers, his rail position and tactical speed might come in quite handy, establishing the pocket trip before moving when he gets his cue.

Among the fastest in this group on performance figures, there’s no arguing with his class credentials as the winner of the Whirlaway Stakes here last season. It won’t be easy but the price should be fair.

Taking Peppi Knows to win at 3-1 or greater and key boxing his first and second in multiples with Monsignor and fast working Teaks North. For five horses, this is one interesting group.

Sophia Is One Fresh Filly

An interesting non-winners of 3 allowances despite the short field at Parx with questionable track conditions owning to a forecast of possible snow showers.

Each of the six have the credentials to win this but none are without warts, whether the filly is turning back with quicker, or coming back too soon, not fitting the race shape, etc., etc.

While she obviously has issues, having run four times now as a late season 4-year-old, Sophia (4-1) has much going for her. Her pace figures, while not dominant, are superior to the group, looming her as the speed of the speed and her final figures are competitive.

Further, she’s 3-for-4 lifetime, one for one over the ground, and she won both her maiden and off a year’s layoff, indicating the time to get her is when she’s fresh. Add to that the fact trainer Steve Klesaris is a very worthy 27 percent with layups of 90 days or longer and it all adds up.

Taking Sophia to win at 5-2 or greater, and keying her first and second in multiples with Bernadette’s Song (2-1) and Weeper (6-1).
