In For a Penny, In For a Pound

Today’s Gulfstream Park feature is a classified allowances, a one-turn mile that has drawn a half with two, Boys Of Tosconova (8-5) and Where’s Sterling (2-1), owning a considerable edge of their rivals.

Rick Dutrow is using this race to find out where he’s at right now with the 2010 Juvenile runnerup. He’s had five works since winning his second start off a return from an injury and retains regular rider Ramon Dominguez.

Now while he hasn’t been asked for his best recently, he must prove he’s all the way back to his 2-year-old form. At a short price, we’ll pass.

Where’s Sterling, meanwhile, has really blossomed this year at 4, he’s reuniting with Paco Lopez, aboard for all three career victories and, most significantly, owns two winning races and a placing in three starts on this ground.

Taking Where’s Sterling to win at 8-5 or greater and an exacta box with the favorite.

Let’s Make a Small Fourtune

Little Mike (5-2) the quintessential Horse for Course making his return from a lengthy layup in today’s co-feature at Gulfstream had quite a time for himself at the previous winter meet, becoming the most accomplished stakes winner at that session.

But given his absence, this looks look the right spot to try to beat him, and the most interesting of the alternatives is the Kairan McLaughlin trainee, Yankee Fourtune (3-1).

This late developing 4-year-old gelding brings a worthy 5-for-8 lifetime slate into this spot, is a multiple graded stakes winner, has earned more than competitive turf figures on the Equiform scale and owns laudable versatility.

Switching to Rajiv Maragh and drawing the pole position, the rider can control his trip nicely assuming only a clean break.

Taking Yankee Fourtune to win at 5-2 or greater and key-boxing him in multiples with both the favorite and his uncoupled mate, Guys Reward (5-1), and also including Clement Rock (4-1) into the exotics mix.

Running Totals: (988) 307-197-141 Total Dollar Return: $2,107.90 [win selections only]

It’s Magoo, Mister

Today's feature at Tampa Bay Downs is interesting, as are most turf sprints. There are some horses from live barns, some ridden by hot jockeys, and one in particular that fits this race very nicely.

Favorite Little Nick (2-1) is consistently fastest on performance figures and appears to hold a class edge, always good on grass, and Paco Lopez is coming north for the ride. Further, he races well fresh, today's scenario.

But it Magoo (9-2) who is most intriguing. He is a fast as today's favorite, is fresh, hails from very crafty connections and is a specialist at 5 furlongs if performance figures are the measure, which they are. He needs to break in from the also-eligibles to get this job done. Otherwise, Little Nick would seem to have a wide edge over the competition.

Taking Magoo to win at 3-1 or greater, and key-boxing him in the multiples with the favorite and late running Wekiva Wachee.

Running Totals: (987) 306-197-141 Total Dollar Return: $2,104.50 [win selections only]
