No Hop Like a Subtle Drop

Heading to Northern Florida for today's featured 9th race from Tampa Bay Downs, a restricted turf route for older males going one mile. Favored Taproot (5-2) will be a tough out; dropping into a restricted condition for the first time, he returns with ideal spacing with tactical speed and kick and Goncalves on the re-ride. He had no chance in his latest when trapped in midstretch with no room to run. However, we're inclined to throw deep with Ellio (10-1).

Entering this off a New Pace Top at 7 furlongs, he's also coming in off a Delayed Pace Low following a promising turf debut in a prior start, both over this course. Today he returns to turf for the first time as a 4-year-old for a barn that's adept with stretchouts. Regular rider Fernando De La Cruz retains the mount.

Taking Ellio to win at 8-1 or greater and an exacta box with Taproot.

Running Totals: (1017) 314-202-148 Total Dollar Return: $2,1572.20 [win selections only]

Praetereo Set to Peak

The Gulfstream feature today goes as the fourth race, a secondary allowances for older males going a mile and a sixteenth.

It brings together an interesting mix of runners of which one, Praetereo (3-1), looks ready to deliver a lifetime best off paired performance figure efforts behind Mucho Macho Man and Adios Charlie in his most recent starts going a flat mile.

A two-turn maiden winner at nine furlongs here as a 3 year old, the recently turned 4 year old benefits from the second turn at slightly longer route. He returns to excellent spacing and Prado, aboard for his most recent win, takes the re-ride and figures to break through in this competitive spot.

Taking Praetereo to win at early line odds or greater and key boxing him in multiples with Endorsement (5-2) and Rocking Out (10-1), exiting the same key race.

Running Totals: (1016) 314-202-147 Total Dollar Return: $2,1572.20 [win selections only]

No Excuses

Sunday's Holy Bull featuring the return of Eclipse champion Hansen will get most of the attention today at Gulfstream Park and desevedly so. But it's the Grade 2 Forward Gal that figures to be more contentious with four of the six fillies having an excellent chance to get the money.

Broadway's Alibi is 8-5 on the early line but it's two other 3-year-old fillies, Sacristy (2-1) and Say A Novena (6-1), that are garnering the most publicity.

Resultantly, value might be available, especially since Broadway's Alibi has done nothing wrong in three career starts; an opening Compression Line followed by consecutive New Pace Tops including a top figure win over the surface at 6-1/2 furlongs and probably will be a higher price than her chances dictate.

The mini-stretchout, her tactical speed, kick, an outside draw, and Johnny Velazquez all augur well for a winning trip.

Taking Broadway's Alibi to win, no price restrictions, and key boxing herin exactas with her two rivals here.

Running Totals: (1015) 313-202-147 Total Dollar Return: $2,1567.80 [win selections only]
