You CAN Go Home Again

Today’s preliminary allowances/optional claiming feature boasts a horse that after a one racer hiatus is back in the barn of Chris Englehart, who engineered two sensational performances from Spina (5-2) in both prior starts, either of which would humble this group easily.

Hate it when races appear obvious but this is appears the only way to go in the straight pool.

Taking Spina to win at 2-1 or greater and keying her in multiples with Full Of Gut (2-1), from the white hot Dutrow shed, and the properly spotted Babai Baby (4-1) Also using price shots Celebrity Sighting (8-1), Lynette (12-1) and Shocking Behavior (12-) in the super-exotic pools.

Running Totals: (969) 300-194-139 Total Dollar Return: $2,068.50 [win selections only]

Recency Over Freshness

Today’s featured Adirondack Holme comes down to a matter of freshness ands recency. Usually, we’re err on the side of freshness; not today.

Besides, perhaps Groomedforvictory (5-2), making its first start for the white hot Dutrow barn, is much better at Gulfstream, as his figures indicate. And it’s been a long time since the claim, but an interesting spot following a layoff.

We need to take Johannesburg Smile (3-1), which mightnot be a Big A Specialist but is a true miler and was a very good conditioning-gaining third in the recent Empire Classic at 9 furlongs and retains Castellano.

Taking Johannesburg Smile to win at 2-1 or greater and keying him in the exacta with the Dutrow runner and price shot Writingonthewall (20-1), back at his best distance and 1-for-1 over the track.

Running Totals: (968) 300-193-139 Total Dollar Return: $2,068.50 [win selections only]

My Kingdom for a Princess

There are but five words missing from the race conditions when Delta Downs runs its signature event this afternoon, the $1 million Delta Jackpot. Those words are “Derby Win and You’re In.” It is after all, a Grade 3 event.

However, we’re going to try to get alive into the Delta Jackpot by keying a filly in the Delta Princess, which goes as the 6th race on the card.

Since claiming Citizen Advocate (7-2) for $40,000 earlier this season, every button trainer David Vivian has pushed has rung the bell; 4-for-4 including an all important winning race over the track.

The one-mile two turn trip will be a test for all of them, especially those without routing experience. While her pedigree might raise some questions, her gameness and development does not. Luis Jurado rides her like he owns her.

Taking Citizen Advocate to win at 3-1 or greater and boxing her in the exacta with Now I Know (9-2), whose pedigree also might be suspect but not her ability (4-for-4 lifetime) or connections (Donnie Von Hemel).

Running Totals: (967) 300-193-139 Total Dollar Return: $2,068.50 [win selections only]
