Beau Choix, Allez, Allez

Today’s feature at Belmont Park is an extremely competitive turf route for older, talented horses. With weather conditions iffy for Thursday, it’s prudent to take a runner with versatility. Beau Choix (8-1) fits that bill.

Stretching to his optimal distance, coming out of the graded Poker Stakes that’s already produced a next out winner from one starter, Beau Choix has earned his best figures on this course, handles any footing, owns a sharp recent work and picks up Dominguez.

Taking Beau Choix to win at 5-1 or greater and key boxing him in multiples with Voodoo Swinge (3-1), Cherokee Artist (5-1) and Monument Hill (10-1).

Running Totals: (886) 278-180-121 Total Dollar Return: $1,924.00 [win selections only]

Fast Is as Fast Does

This sprint for 3 year old fillies never really impressed as a true Grade 1, but here is the Prioress, anyway.

Five of the six entrants have speed, they are the fastest fillies, but all are coming off lifetime best efforts at different venues.

If the name of the game is speed with young horses, than the name must be Baffert, whose family also owns this filly. She’s been working bullets--what else?-but one work has come locally, the second fastest of 78 fillies in her category for the week.

Figures to move forward switching from synthetics to dirt and attracts Johnny V.
Taking Alienation (3-1) to win at 2-1 or greater and will try to fill in trifecta with late running Her Smile (10-1).

Running Totals: (885) 278-180-120 Total Dollar Return: $1,924.00 [win selections only]

Main Speed Capable of Suburban Upset

Today’s Grade 2 Suburban apparently is a handicap in name only. Six horses ALL carry 115 pounds; what a coincidence.

Anyway, the two favorites, Rodman (8-5) and Hymn Book (5-2) are coming off big efforts. Of the two, I would prefer Hymn Book to regress a little less.

The value in here appears to be Colizeo (5-1), who might shake free under an aggressive Cornelio Velasquez, as the Pletcher trainee loses Johnny to Shug’s well positioned Hymn Book. Unlike the favorites, Colizeo looks poised for a forward move on the stretchout to a more favorable distance.

Taking Colizeo to win at 7-2 or greater and keying him first and second in multiples with Hymn Book and oft-disappointing Convocation (6-1) who’s been pointed to this spot and picks up Dominguez.

Running Totals: (883) 278-180-120 Total Dollar Return: $1,924.00 [win selections only] {Friday results not included}
