Don’t Haze Me, Bro

Should today’s Belmont feature remain on the turf, it would be like watching a graded stakes masquerading as a preliminary allowances. Lots of talented runners in today’s lineup with almost all contenders having big upsides.

Imagining (2-1) will be a very tough out for Team McGaughey-Castellano; the same for Unbridled Ocean (3-1) for Pletcher-Velazquez. But we‘re going for the gusto.

Freshman Dorm (8-1) may not look sexy class wise but his Equiform figures are highly competitive with the race favorites. Coming off a Turf Decline Line, badly hindered by the dawdling pace, he finished strongly to win his return to Belmont, where he owns a career best performance figure. The spacing is right and he’s 3-for-4 at today’s trip.

Taking Freshman Dorm to win at 6-1 or greater and key boxing in exactas with the favorites indicated above.

Running Totals: (954) 294-191-138 Total Dollar Return: $2,025.10 [win selections only]

Sorry, Kid

In today’s featured Golden Miss Circle overnight stakes at Belmont that has attracted many 7 furlong specialists, the difference between Kid Kate (2-1) and Belle Of the Hall (7-2) is the shift back to Belmont Park where the latter is 2-for-2.

Taking Belle Of the Hall to win at 3-1 or greater and keying her in multiples with Kid Kate and another Belmont lover, Coax Liberty (9-2).

Running Totals: (953) 294-191-137 Total Dollar Return: $2,025.10 [win selections only]

Sleepy Hollow or Bust

In today's centerpiece Empire Classic on New York-Bred Showcase Day, the logical favorite is, of course, Statebred of the Year 2010, Haynesfield. If you can win the Jockey Club Gold Cup, you should be able to handle statebred peers. But at no time this year has he resembled last year's 4-year-old, so we're laying, not playing, the 8-5 early line choice.

Now Inherit The Gold is very fast, and Johannesburg Smile has some gas, too. That's why we're opting for late running Icabad Crane (4-1), who repeats favorable turf to dirt pattern here and has great spacing returning for Graham Motion.

Taking Icabad Crane to win at no lower than early line odds and keying boxing him in multiples with his rivals listed here.

Running Totals: (952) 294-191-137 Total Dollar Return: $2,025.10 [win selections only]
