Take the Taconic to Victory

If today’s Belmont feature doesn’t resemble a test right of Handicapping 101, I wouldn’t know another to top it.

It’s a secondary allowances for older fillies going the hybrid 6-½ furlongs and three of the five entrants are long on early speed and a hot early pace seems assured.

Of the two remaining fillies, one prefers racing fresh, has enough tactical speed to stay within range, is nicely drawn outside, has competitive performance figures and has done her best racing at today’s distance. Case closed.

Taking Taconic Victory, 9-5 on the early line, to win, with no price restrictions.

Running Totals: (865) 272-177-119 Total Dollar Return: $1,898.70 [win selections only]

Bet On The Chief

With conditions not knowable for sure, the idea is to find a turf runner in the Belmont Key To the Bridge overnight stakes that can handle a variety of course scenarios.

That would narrow the choice to two and Bet On The Blue (7-2) is the choice to provide better value than the anticipated favorite, Strike It Rich (5-2).

Both can handle any kind of surface but the former is getting some class relief dropping out of the Grade 3 Beaugay, is familiar with Belmont Park, gets a favorable rider switch and rates to move forward off a Turf Decline Line. Her tactical speed should serve her well given an inside draw.

Taking Bet On The Blue to win at 7-2 or greater and an exacta box with Strike It Rich.

Running Totals: (864) 272-176-119 Total Dollar Return: $1,898.70 [win selections only]

Blazing the Way

Today’s preliminary allowance feature on turf at Belmont Park has attracted some very useful turf runners.

With most carrying high weight of over 121 pounds at 4 year-olds, recent maiden breaking 3-year-old gelding Sky Blazer (4-1) gets in lighter and Barclay Tagg has been very adept with recent maiden winners moving into the allowance ranks.

Not as fast as the competition here but on a good line with strong recent works since coming home to Belmont, the chance for value is real.

Taking Sky Blazer to win at 4-1 or greater and an exacta box with the Jimmy Jerkens-trained entry.

Running Totals: (863) 272-176-118 Total Dollar Return: $1,898.70 [win selections only]
