It’s Two…Two Bets in One

Today’s Belmont turf feature at 1-1/16 miles on the inner turf shakes out a two-horse race; actually three as it includes a rare stable coupling.

And the good news is that both Godolphin runners are likely to run as they’re stabled in different barns.

Robillard raced very well to win his turf debut at Keeneland at this trip; Kiaran McLaughlin is 3-for-8 this meet and is 26% effective coming off a maiden win.

Mate Lucknow finished strongly in a maiden breaker going 7-1/2 at GP and his pedigree says “more distance please, which is what he gets here. Either half of the entry figures to be a tough out.

Taking the Godolphin entry, no price restrictions, and boxing the exacta with Striking Style, making her season’s debut off sharp Fair Hill workline, her best Energy Ratings coming at the distance on Belmont grass last year.

Number of Selections since 2008: 1745

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 524-333

Amount Wagered: $3,490 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,595.10

Profit to Date: $105.10

A Right Turn on Sycamore Lane

Good turf feature at Belmont, a N3X that probably would be a stakes anywhere else. In fact, the race is thisclose to graded quality.

As everyone should know, when Bill Mott gets them good they stay good, 26% repeaters with a large sample attests to that.

What you have to like about Sycamore Lane is his versatility; he can beat you in front, stalking, or can kick on late if need be, which makes Jose Lezcano, who’s won thrice aboard this 4-year-old, such a good fit.

Taking Sycamore Lane to win, no price restrictions, boxing him with Artic North, dropping out of graded stakes and switching to Javier, and will use Dorsett and Iron Power in the super-exotics numbers.

Number of Selections since 2008: 1744

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 523-333

Amount Wagered: $3,488 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,585.30

Profit to Date: $97.30

I Have a Request

Does Chad Brown saddle the horses to beat in every turf race? No, but it sure seems that way, especially if Christophe Clement is not represented.

Today’s preliminary allowances feature going a mile on the Widener has seven entrants making their 2015 debuts. (We don’t pick these spots, that’s just the way feature races shake out).

Request (3-1) is among the returnees. Obviously, Chad is tops coming back with grass runners off long layup, he’s a first-time, never insignificant, but more so as a son of Dynaformer and he reaches out for Javier (30% team).

There might actually be some pace to help his late-run style and the clincher is his best Energy Rating was earned on Belmont grass last season.

Taking Request to win at 5-2 or greater, an exacta box with returning Linda Rice hard-hitter Adirondack Dancer (7-2), and will go for the green in super-exotics, using Balderdash (20-1) to fill out the number with a host of others.

Number of Selections since 2008: 1743

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 523-333

Amount Wagered: $3,486 [to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,585.30

Profit to Date: $99.30
