Double Your Breeders’ Cup Pleasure, Double Your Fun

In the nominal Breeders' Cup features on Friday and Saturday, all that's at stake is the three-year-old filly championship, the older filly and mare title, and the big one, an East vs. West battle for the three-year-old supremacy and Horse of the Year 2017.

Otherwise, it's just another day at the office, unless something spooky happens in the Classic and Lady Eli, the Story of the Year, nails her career finale and enters the Horse of the Year discussion. And that's why they run the races.

On the pragmatic side--which is something we do here virtually every day--we'll try to divine the winners of the Distaff and aforementioned Classic.

In the Distaff, we're torn between and 3-year-old and an older mare that could seal that divsion with a Filly Friday score: Elate (3-1) vs. Forever Unbridled (4-1).

To do so, they must take the measure of the current divisional leaders; 3-year-old Abel Tasman (4-1) and Del Mar loving Stellar Wind (5-2), respectively. The competition is formidable, but we're sticking with our choices:

Going on record with Elate to win the Distaff at 5-2 or greater and boxing an exacta with Forever Unbridled. We're using both fillies to launch our Distaff-Classic double play.

The Classic, of course, is billed as a pitched battle between the best 4-year-olds in the East and West, ranked #1 and #2 in the NTRA Poll, Gun Runner (9-5) vs. Arrogate (2-1).

But divisional leading 3-year-old West Coast (6-1) could have much to say about the Classic outcome.

If early lines hold, the 3-year-old clearly would be a value play, but he very likely will be no greater than 4-1 ante post. We're using all three to complete the double.

On the record, we're taking Gun Runner to win at early line odds or greater to record his first lifetime victory at a mile and a quarter.

The Distaff-Classic part wheel is 5-6 with 1-5-8, extra ticket with Gun Runner.

Happy Breeders' Cup Weekend Everyone!

It’s Offical: Aqueduct Opens Friday with a Pick Six Carryover

BULLETIN Exclusive: Mark Berner has just confirmed that the NYRA has received permission from the New York State Gaming Commission to open it's Aqueduct meeting on Friday with a Pick 6 carryover that was in place on Belmont's closing day day this past Sunday.

Sunday's program was cancelled when dangerous winds and rain was expected to inundate Long Island, which would have created a dangerous situation for jockeys and horses racing that afternoon.

Aqueduct opens its Fall/Early Winter race meet on NOV 3.

***

To All Interested Parties:

By law, the Pick 6 carryover pool, which was lost due to Sunday's weather related cancellation of the final day of racing at the 2017 Belmont Fall meet, gets carried over to opening day of the Belmont 2018 spring-summer meet, according to HRI's 'Inside New York' columnist Mark Berner.

However, NYRA is seeking permission from the New York State Gaming Commission to offer it on opening day of the Aqueduct this Friday.

If they do get permission, wouldn't Sunday have been a better choice what with, you know, bettors being focused on Breeders' Cup?

Just sayin'

Race Shape Dictates Belmont Feature

Today's feature is the Pumpkin Stakes for sprinters going 6 furlongs and there's plenty of speed in this lineup. That sets the table nicely for Cursor (6-1) to repeat providing the 3YO continues her development and improves.

Belmont lover's three career wins have come over Big Sandy and two of those came at today's trip. Nicely positioned outside, she comes into this with good spacing for Mark Hennig and has retained her sharpness in the a.m.

Taking Cursor to win at 5-1 or greater, and key boxing exactas with class dropping Indulgent (2-1) and super-sharp ship-in, Bustin Out (3-1).
