Trying To Be Discreet

Today’s Schenectady is interesting in that it pits two impressive debut winners over the local course making their stakes debuts.

But it would be indiscreet to try to beat Chris Clement’s filly. Too Discreet is kin to turf royalty and she showed as much when by winning her debut handily despite a troubled start.

The win over the course, her speed, pole position and a sharp blowout give her the edge over Don’t Be So Salty (4-1) who, after getting clear in midstretch, closed with a rush to win under the same conditions for owner/trainer Adam Rice.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1806

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 544-343

Amount Wagered: $3,612 [$2 to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,735.00

She Ain’t No Zippy Chippy

Highly competitive Union Avenue Stakes and unwilling to take 2-1 ML fave coming off January layup beneath 124 pounds.

Instead, taking sharp 3-year-old Tricky Zippy (6-1) who is improving rapidly and gets in with 114 meeting elders. Her style and post fit conditions nicely here, she makes first start for Jimmy Jerkens and Johnny given a return call.

Taking Tricky Zippy to win at 4-1 or greater and key-boxing exactas with Willet (2-1) and Sister Margaret (5-1).

Number of Selections since 2007: 1805

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 543-343

Amount Wagered: $3,610 [$2 to win only]

One Good Landing Deserves Another

Today’s Bolton’s Landing is one of those trappy short fields but, even at that, a couple of these juvenile state-bred fillies should assure a lively pace.

That will suit Celestial Sighting (4-1), victimized by a poor start and rough trip, but overcame all of it to win her debut at today’s trip on turf. No one entrant here can boast as much—and she looked good doing it, too.

Taking Celestial Sighting to win at 5-2 or greater and an exacta box with either or both parts of the Wes Ward uncoupled pairing.

Number of Selections since 2007: 1804

Number of Win and Place Finishes: 543-342

Amount Wagered: $3,608 [$2 to win only]

Total Dollar Return on Investment: $3,727.30

Profit to Date: $119.30
