Cary Fotias's 'No Limit Handicapping'
In an effort to better serve HRI readers, and not limit Cary Fotias to the California circuit exclusively, Cary will be posting his value plays at whatever track he deems suitable. So be sure to check out his “No Limit Handicapping” column daily.
Cary has been posting his selections at HorseRaceInsider on a semi-weekly basis since 2007. Author and professional horseplayer, a look at his running totals are simply among the most unusual ever for a handicapper posting selections in advance in the public arena.
His cumulative running totals of (44) 15-3-5 as of July, 2009--for a total dollar return of $204.70 based on win selections only--yielded an otherworldly 231% return on investment. This is not the kind of impossible claim you often will see from other handicappers.
Cary's selections and results are easily verifiable, archived on the HRI site for your verification. HRI is very proud to have Cary Fotias as its handicapper in residence.

Go West Young Men
Saturday June 9th - "While the national racing focus will be on Saturdays Belmont Stakes, it isnt a very appetizing betting race. With that in mind, lets try to find some VALUE on the West Coast. In the seventh race at Hollywood, both Clan Chief and Sixth Street Joe are on good Equiform pattern lines and 6/1 and 8/1 respectively on the morning line.
No Limit Play: #2 to Win
#11 to win
small exacta box 2/11
As for that race in New York, I like Hard Spun to turn the tables on Curlin. Curlin is coming off a big career best effort, rates to back up, and is not particularly well bred to get the 1-1/2 mile distance. Hard Spun, on the other hand, is by Danzig out of a Turkoman mare and should relish the twelve furlongs, especially with a guaranteed softer early pace than in the Derby and Preakness. At 5/2, Hard Spun would be value, and I will play him in trifectas with Curlin second and Imawildandcrazy, Tiago and CP West in the third position. Rags to Riches may be a special filly, but she is meeting two very tough customers in Curlin and Hard Spun and will probably be a big underlay in the wagering.
No Limit Play: Trifecta 6/3/1,2,4

Making Something out of Very Little
Sundays feature race, the Grade II Milady Handicap at Hollywood Park will provide little or no wagering value in and of itself. Hystericalady and Balance are both Grade I winners facing just four others. I like Hystericalady more than Balance, but the only way to make any real money off this race is to play the doubles and Pick-3 starting with these two standouts in the opening leg.
The fourth race is a $25,000 claiming affair for 3-year-old fillies. Marry Me Larry ran her best Equiform pace number in her last, indicating she may be ready to live up to the promise she showed in her debut at Santa Anita. I will also use Wicket Wager off her big number three back at Bay Meadows.
The fifth race is a mile-and-a-sixteenth Maiden Special on the weeds. Frank the Barber and More Shine are both on very nice Equiform patterns (Turf Decline Lines). I will also throw in World News with his Dynaformer breeding along with Vice Admiral, who has run some very strong dirt numbers.
NO LIMIT PLAYS:
Doubles -- Races 3/4 (3,4/27)
PICK-3s Races 3/4/5 (3,4/2,7/2,3,5,6)

Pimlico Revisited
The Preakness its not, but tomorrows Shine Again Stakes at Pimlico could provide a nice betting opportunity. This feature is for fillies and mares, four year-olds and up going 8-1/2 furlongs on the dirt.
The morning line favorite, Take a Check, at 8/5 looks vulnerable to me. Her two races this year are well below her best. She could move forward in her third off a layoff, but I wont be betting on it at a short price.
The most interesting horse to me is (#3) Seattles Bodgit at 6/1 on the morning line. Although most of her racing has been at Charles Town and she has limited stakes experience, this filly has been out of the money only once in fourteen career starts and has been in the exacta 10 times. She is off a nice pattern (new pace top) on the Equiform numbers and looks ready to fire her best shot at a nice price.
Take Seattles Bodgit to win at 4/1 or better.
Box Seattles Bodgit in exactas with (#1) Miss Lombardi and (#5) Hanalei Bay.
