Cary Fotias's 'No Limit Handicapping'
In an effort to better serve HRI readers, and not limit Cary Fotias to the California circuit exclusively, Cary will be posting his value plays at whatever track he deems suitable. So be sure to check out his “No Limit Handicapping” column daily.
Cary has been posting his selections at HorseRaceInsider on a semi-weekly basis since 2007. Author and professional horseplayer, a look at his running totals are simply among the most unusual ever for a handicapper posting selections in advance in the public arena.
His cumulative running totals of (44) 15-3-5 as of July, 2009--for a total dollar return of $204.70 based on win selections only--yielded an otherworldly 231% return on investment. This is not the kind of impossible claim you often will see from other handicappers.
Cary's selections and results are easily verifiable, archived on the HRI site for your verification. HRI is very proud to have Cary Fotias as its handicapper in residence.

Good Times at the County Fair
Del Mar is over. Southern California racing now shifts to Fairplex Park at the LA County Fair in Pomona. I've always done well at this bullring by focusing on a few themes. First, favorites win in bunches as evidenced by the 41% hit rate last year and a whopping 38% over the last five years. Secondly, riding a lot of those favorites are Martin Pedroza and David Flores, the two all-time leading winning jockeys at Fairplex. Be wary of leaving favorites off your exotic tickets and look instead to cash with longer prices underneath, especially in triples and superfectas. Even with chalk on top, the tris and supers can come back very nicely. Lastly, look for horses that have had previous success over the track, indicating an ability to handle the tight turns.
All that being said, let's look at a few plays for today -
RACE 7 -- (#6) Forgivable Bob should be able to withstand early pace pressure from Mountain Warrior. Key him on top in tris and supers with 2,3,4,8.
RACE 8 -- (#4) Tough Contender looks the one to beat off a New Pace Top. Box him in exactas with #3 and #8. Also box 3,4,8 in trifecta.
RACE 9 -- (#5) Cee My Tizzy Run could take them all the way in this Maiden Claimer and is 12/1 on the morning line. Bet (#5) Win and Place.

All Hail Street Sense
Barring the unforeseen, the 138th edition of the Travers Stakes belongs to Street Sense. The Derby winner has taken a classic route to the Travers by annexing the Jim Dandy followed by three nice maintenance works over the Spa oval. He wilL be a deserving 2/5 favorite over six overmatched rivals. If you must play the race, I suggest a cold exacta with Sightseeing second
Street Sense makes the late Pick-4 a virtual Pick-3 and that will be the
action for today.
