Cary Fotias Qualifies for National Handicapping



Saratoga, NY, Aug. 8 ---- HorseRaceInsider.com announced today that HorseRaceInsider contributor Cary Fotias finished second in the Ellis Park handicapping contest Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007 and qualified for the NTRA/DRF National Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas early next year.

The Ellis Park contest was offered in conjunction with the Claiming Crown series, which this year set a record for event handle at $4.9 million. It was the first time Ellis Park hosted the event.

"Our figures did a good job highlighting playable races and horses at fair odds, said Fotias. "In fact, Sal LaGreca, a long time Equiform client, finished third and also qualified for the NTRA championship."

The Ellis contest attracted horseplayers from around the country. Thirty seven contest players put up $2,000 each, half going into a separate pool as prize money, the other half retained by bettors for wagering on mandatory contest races.

An interesting format, players wager their own money on a minimum of six, to a maximum of eight contest races. The only requirements were a mandatory wager on the featured Claiming Crown event, the Jewel, and every bet must be at least half the player's existing bankroll.

Bettors could wager in any pool, and those accumulating the most real money wins.

Breeders Cup Challenge Schedule




Short of creating a true playoff system that leads to year-end divisional honors, NTRA/Breeders’ Cup has done the next best thing: Taking existing prestigious races and allowing its winner an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

Able One, winner of the Champions Mile at Sha Tin Race Course in Hong Kong April 29, is the first horse to earn a slot, qualifying for the Breeders’ Cup Mile, Oct. 27. More foreign events are expected to be included in 2008.
