Albany’s WNYT Confirms Longer Saratoga Race Meet in 2019

February 2, 2019--WNYT-TV, an NBC owned and operated television station in Albany New York, today confirmed a story reported on CH-13 and at HorseRaceInsider in November that the Saratoga season will be extended, beginning July 11 and ending Labor Day, September 2.

The dates will become official pending state approval. It is believed that New York State never has failed to approve New York Racing Association race dates.

NYRA will race five days a week with Mondays and Tuesdays dark, Labor Day notwithstanding.

WNYT also reported that the NYRA will seek state approval to begin the 2020 Saratoga meet earlier as well.

The association has not made the announcement official, awaiting government approval before making a public statement. Permission could come at any time.

Capital District interests notwithstanding, a starting date for construction of an arena for the New York Islanders at Belmont Park also hangs in the balance.
