Mushka Brings $2.4 Million to Top Tuesday Session of Keeneland November Sale


Lexington, KY (November 4, 2008) – Graded stakes winner Mushka brought a final bid of $2.4 million from Elizabeth Moran’s Brushwood Stable to top Tuesday’s session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

By Empire Maker out of the stakes-winning Seeking the Gold mare Sluice, Mushka won the Demoiselle Stakes (G2) at two and, in her last start prior to the November Sale, an allowance race on opening day of Keeneland’s fall meeting. Franny Abbott, who acted as agent for Mrs. Moran, reported that the three-year-old filly will remain in training with Bill Mott.

BOB BLACK JACK TO RETURN IN VERNON O. UNDERWOOD

Bob Black Jack, North American record-setter at six furlongs, is scheduled to make his first start since May in the $100,000-added Vernon O. Underwood Stakes at Hollywood Park Nov. 22, trainer Jim Kasparoff said Wednesday. The Grade III Underwood is at six furlongs on Cushion Track.

Bob Black Jack, a 3-year-old colt, won the Sunshine Millions Sprint at Santa Anita in January in 1:06.53, lowering the continent standard of 1:06.60 set by G Malleah at Turf Paradise in 1995.

BROWNING TAKES MONDAY FEATURE AT THE MEADOWLANDS


East Rutherford, NJ [Nov. 3, 2008] - Browning took command at the quarter and held on to win the featured $41,000 seventh race for filly sprinters Monday afternoon at the Meadowlands.

With Daniel Centeno aboard, Browning [$22.60, $8.00, $4.80] stepped the five furlongs in 57.63 over a turf course rated good. Lady Rizzi [$3.00, $2.20] rallied between horses to finish three-quarters of a length behind in second. Big Cat Walks Late [$3.00] made a three-wide move into the lane and flew home to finish a neck behind in third.

Hystericalady Brings $3 Million to Open Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale


Lexington, KY (November 3, 2008) – Demand for young, quality mares and broodmare prospects continued to be strong on opening day of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale, which was highlighted by the sale of Grade 1 stakes-winner Hystericalady for $3 million.

John Ferguson, on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, signed the ticket for the five-year-old mare by Distorted Humor out of Chilean champion Sacramentada. Sold as a racing or broodmare prospect, Hystericalady recorded 11 wins in 23 starts, including the Humana Distaff (G1), Hollywood Breeders’ Cup Oaks (G2) and Molly Pitcher Stakes (G2) twice, for earnings of nearly $2.4 million. She was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

MODEL CONNECTS UNDER MICHAEL BAZE FOR FIRST STAKES VICTORY


INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2008) — Model cruised to the lead on the outside turning for home and held on for a 1¾-length victory under jockey Michael Baze in the first running of the $75,250 It’s In The Air Stakes on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

The 4-year-old daughter of Giant’s Causeway earned her first stakes victory while covering 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track in 1:41.01, paying $3.40, $2.40 and $2.10 as the 3-5 betting choice. Spenditallbaby, who closed for second under Victor Espinoza, paid $7.20 and $3.80, while the show payoff on Bai and Bai with Aaron Gryder up was $3.

POWERS LILSIS SCORES UPSET IN SPRINT FEATURE AT GGF


ALBANY -- Powers Lilsis seized the lead from pacesetter Beaming Babe at the top of the stretch and went on to post a 1 1/2-length victory in the $40,620 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

Dismissed at 12-to-1 in the wagering, Powers Lilsis won the six-furlong allowance dash for fillies and mares in 1:09.62 under veteran jockey Roberto Gonzalez. Powers Lilsis paid $26.60 to win.

Rocket Kitty took second by 1 1/2 lengths over Beaming Babe.

SUFFOLK DOWNS CANCELS MONDAY’S CARD


EAST BOSTON, MA - Suffolk Downs was forced to cancel its live racing program on Monday due to a tote system failure.

Monday's card has been rescheduled for Friday, November 7, pending approval of the State Racing Commission. First post is 12:45.

A good time for Porte Bonheur in Ontario Fashion


TORONTO, November 2 - New York invader Porte Bonheur rallied on the inside to capture Sunday's $163,500 Ontario Fashion Stakes at Woodbine.

The six-furlong event was the daughter of Hennessy's first try over a synthetic surface. She adjusted to the Toronto oval's Polytrack with style, defeating onrushing Ontario-bred Lucas Street by 1 1/2 lengths.

The Chicago-based mare Miss Macy Sue, who set the pace, was third.

DARK DAY SIMULCASTS BEGIN AT AQUEDUCT


Aqueduct Racetrack will offer the first of its dark day simulcast-only days on Monday and Tuesday, November 3 and 4. Fans will be able to bet at Aqueduct’s second-floor simulcast center, and mutuel clerks, self-service terminals and concession stand service will be available.

There is no charge for admission or general parking at Aqueduct for either live racing days – Wednesdays through Sundays -- or simulcast-only days. Parking and admission gates will open at 11:30 a.m., with the final simulcast race going off approximately 6:30 p.m.

BREAK WATER EDISON, LIVIN LOVIN TAKE JUVENILE STAKES


Eli Gindi’s Break Water Edison closed out his 2-year-old campaign with a flourish as he took the lead in midstretch and went on to a 1¾-length victory over favored Hello Broadway in the 33rd running of the Grade 3, $118,500 Nashua Stakes Sunday afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Reunited with jockey Alan Garcia, who had been aboard for his first two starts, the son of Lemon Drop Kid stayed in the clear as the early fractions went in 22.96, 46.14 and 1:11.25, easily moving up when asked and hitting the wire in 1:35.86 for the mile over a fast track.

CHARLIE’S MOMENT READY FOR REAL QUIET

Trainer and co-owner Walther Solis, who scored his biggest victory here with Time to Get Even in the 2007 Lazaro S. Barrera Stakes, thinks it’s time for another stakes victory with Charlie’s Moment in the $100,000-added Real Quiet Stakes for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track Saturday.

Charlie’s Moment, a gelded son of Indian Charlie, is the most accomplished candidate for the race with a stakes win in the Gateway to Glory at Fairplex Park and earnings of $108,450.
