Just before the opening of Saratoga Race Course back in July, trainer Bobby Barbara was facing a hard fact. He didn’t think he had horses that could compete at racing’s most prestigious meet.

But his meet was salvaged by the sudden wake-up of Elliot Mavorah’s Interpatation. While the 6-year-old Langfuhr gelding has yet to win in seven starts this year, at Saratoga he ran third to Grand Couturier in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Invitational, came back to run third at Philadelphia Park, and then ran second in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational to runaway winner Grand Couturier.

Occasional horse racing fans are always looking for the horse to root for on the big day. They'll watch the Queen's Plate, the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders' Cup and want to back a horse they can connect with.

This year, in the 25th edition of the Bredeers' Cup World Championships, set for this Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25 at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California, the romantic horse is one with a decidedly Canadian angle.

Trained by Woodbine-based horseman Greg DeGannes, C Karma, rated 8-1 in the morning line for Friday's Juvenile Fillies Turf event, simply shouldn't be here.

East Rutherford, NJ [October 23, 2008] Maddy’s Heart prevailed by a head over Always For Love in a fierce stretch duel to win the $45,000 sixth race allowance on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

She covered the mile and 70 yards in 1:39.82, giving jockey Stewart Elliot and trainer Timothy Hills their second win of the night. Dattts Our Girl made a late rally to finish a half-length behind in third. Maddy’s Heart paid $5.20, $3.40 and $2.60.
