ALBANY -- Golden Gate Fields announced Thursday the addition of two overnight events to its stakes schedule - the $50,000 McCann's Mojave on Saturday, Feb. 14, and the $50,000 King Glorious on Saturday, Feb. 28.

The McCann's Mojave, a 1 1/16-mile race for 4-year-olds and up, will be part of the undercard on El Camino Real Derby Day. Nominations for the McCann's Mojave close Saturday, Feb. 7.

Entries confirm global appeal of Dubai World Cup

The Dubai World Cup has again proven to lead the way in horse racing’s international era, its global appeal emphasised by the Dubai Racing Club receiving in excess of 1,600 entries from 27 countries for the world’s richest race-meeting.

The 2009 US$6,000,000 Group 1 Dubai World Cup, sponsored by Emirates Airline, to be run on March 28, 2009, holds special significance as it will be the 14th and final renewal staged at Nad Al Sheba racecourse before racing is moved to Meydan in 2010.

Back at Jebel Ali

Jebel Ali will tomorrow afternoon, stage the seven race card postponed from a week ago, with the featured 1200m handicap again kindly sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Shadwell organisation.

Thirteen have been declared for the AED100,000 dash with the weights headed by the Rashed Bouresly-trained League Champion who has run both his best races locally on this course.

(January 21, 2009) The Tampa Bay Downs trainers’ standings are a close lock through the first 25 days of the Oldsmar oval’s 83rd season of racing, with past leading trainers Jamie Ness and Kirk Ziadie tied for the lead with 16 wins each. Lynne Scace is currently the third leading conditioner with 121victories to her credit; Greg Griffith is fourth with 8 wins; and Dale Bennett is in fifth place with seven trips to the Winner’s Circle.

Award-winning horse racing and sports announcer Kenny Rice will host the 38th annual Eclipse Awards on Monday evening January 26 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach in Miami Beach, Fla.

The Eclipse Awards are presented by the NTRA, National Turf Writers Association (NTWA) and Daily Racing Form. Eclipse Awards are bestowed upon 17 horses and individuals whose outstanding achievements in 2008 have earned them the title of Champion in their respective categories. The Eclipse Awards will be televised live by TVG, beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET.


Kip Deville Works Between Races at Gulfstream

IEAH Stable and partners’ Kip Deville had the Gulfstream Park turf course all to himself Wednesday afternoon, between the second and third races, as the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) winner worked six furlongs ahead of a start in the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (G1) on Feb. 1.

Under regular jockey Cornelio Velasquez, the 6-year-old son of Kipling clicked off fractions of :26 4/5 and :51 3/5 before finishing his breeze in front of the racing crowd in 1:16 4/5.

ALBANY -- A trio of horses based at Golden Gate Fields will compete Saturday in the seventh annual Sunshine Millions, an event in which California-breds and Florida-breds compete in rich stakes races run at Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park.

The $3.6 million Sunshine Millions program features the following races: $1 million Classic (at Gulfstream Park), $500,000 Turf (Santa Anita), $500,000 Filly and Mare Turf (Gulfstream Park), $500,000 Distaff (Santa Anita), $300,000 Filly and Mare Sprint (Gulfstream Park), $300,000 Sprint (Santa Anita), $250,000 Dash (Gulfstream Park), and $250,000 Oaks (Santa Anita).

Big Man in the City

Thursday’s second meeting of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival, kindly sponsored by Al Tayer Motors, featured the Group 3 1200m Al Shindagha Sprint on the dirt.

It was won in style by the Jerry Barton-trained Big City Man who showed acceleration that the sponsors would have been proud of in one of their Ferraris!

Never far off the pace, he went to the front at halfway and quickened clear 200m later.

Break Water Edison Busts Loose in Gulfstream Workout

Trainer John Kimmel just got back from a skiing vacation in Utah.

After the way Eli Gindi’s 3-year-old colt Break Water Edison worked at Gulfstream Park Wednesday morning, he knows that’s probably the last time off he will get for a while as the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail offers no vacation time.

OLDSMAR, Fla. (January 20, 2009) Tomorrow, January 21 will be a bonus race day at Tampa Bay Downs. Wednesday’s live card will showcase ten races, including an allowance dash for fillies three years old travelling seven furlongs fresh off of their first wins. The featured race of the day is the ninth race, an allowance optional claiming test for four year olds an up. Titus, making his 2009 debut for trainer Jamie Ness, will take on nine other contenders in the five furlong turf test.

Saturday, January 24 will be Cap Giveaway Day at Tampa Bay Downs. A free Tampa Bay Downs commemorative baseball cap will be given away with each paid admission while supplies last.

Sprinters to motor at Nad Al Sheba

Al Tayer Motors sponsor tonight’s second meeting of the 2009 Dubai International Racing Carnival and an all Thoroughbred, nine race card starts at 6.55pm.

The feature race of the evening is the Group 3 Al Shindagha Sprint, a 1200m dash on dirt, for which 12 have been declared.

ARCADIA, Calif. (Jan. 19, 2009) – Artiste Royal, whose fortunes veered off course when eleventh in last month’s $2.5-million Hong Kong Cup, got back on track in a hurry on Monday when storming from last to nail Medici Code on the money in Santa Anita’s 57th running of the Grade II, $150,000 San Marcos Handicap at 1 ¼ miles on turf.

With jockey Garrett Gomez timing his move to perfection, 5-2 favored Artiste Royal got up in the final jump to win by a nose and provide Hall of Fame trainer Neil Drysdale with his fourth San Marcos win since 1989.
