Gulfstream: $400,000 Sunshine Millions Classic Quotes

Trainer Kathy Ritvo (Mucho Macho Man): “It was good to have him back. We put him in because he was ready to run. It was fun.

“It’s nice to win at home. We have total confidence in Gary (Stevens), so the whole race was fun. I was very comfortable today.

“One race at a time. He’s not even back at the barn yet.”

Stable manager Finn Green (Mucho Macho Man): “We hoped he would run the way he did today. We didn’t know he’d open up like that. It was the race to start back with. It was the perfect race to come back from the Breeders’ Cup Classic, not because of the timing from the Breeders’ Cup but for the next races.

(Are Dubai World Cup and Santa Anita Handicap options): “They are two of the options. One of them is a little more conventional for us – Santa Anita for the Big Cap. We’d have seven weeks to Santa Anita and 10 weeks to Dubai. We’d probably run in a race five weeks from now, if we were going to go to Dubai.”

Owner Dean Reeves (Mucho Macho Man): "That was strong, very impressive. It was great to see him do that today and Kathy had him ready to go. I think he continues to surprise me because he goes on to bigger heights.

(Bringing him back as a 6-year-old): "We felt like he had an opportunity to do a lot of great things for horse racing. He has great fans and I love running."

(What's next): We're just going to see what Kathy and (stable manager) Finn Green think."

Jockey Gary Stevens (Mucho Macho Man): "I actually felt more pressure today than I did in the Breeders' Cup Classic. On paper, they can't get beat, but they all can get beat. Kathy had him spot on for what we needed today. I suppose it was more like a workout than a race. He won very, very easy. He ran fast, and I geared him down at the end and tried not to overdo it."

"The thing they told me - Kathy and Finn - is, 'We don't need to put on a show today. Don't show him off.' And he kind of did anyway, on his own. But there was no intention of trying to embarrass anybody. It was nice to have people show up to run against him today. It was a huge effort from him -- an easy effort, but huge at the same time."

"It's the first time I've ridden here since they've redone everything. The turf course is totally different, but it's still Gulfstream, and I love it here."

Trainer Barry Rose (Joshua’s Comprise, Decaf Again): “We didn’t know that we could beat him, but we knew we were going to be there as long as somebody went with him. The race set up perfectly for my two to just come off the pace, and they just love to run. It’s nice that I got two of them actually running the way they’re supposed to. That’s a win for us.”
