Gulfstream Today 1-21-13
Lead: David Garner’s 3-year-old Kentucky homebred filly Twice Told Tale broke last of nine in Monday’s eighth race allowance feature going six furlongs at Gulfstream Park, but rallied around horses into the stretch to wear down Ice Wine Stable’s pace-setting Barisoff to score by a ha-length under jockey John Velazquez.
A roan/gray daughter of Tale of the Cat, Twice Told Tale was winning for the second time in three starts. She finished a good third in her debut at Belmont Park on Oct. 8 and came back to break her maiden in her second start over the Gulfstream track on Dec. 7 as the even-money favorite.
Twice Told Tale paid a generous $14.80 for $2 to win. Midwest Thoroughbreds’ My Craze Dayse finished third, 3 ¾ lengths behind 2-to-1 favorite Barisoff in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies as the winner was timed in 1:11:38 over the ‘fast’ track.
Who’s Hot: Jockeys Joel Rosario posted three winners on the afternoon while John Velazquez had a double. Rosario moved into third in the Gulfstream standings with 34 winners, trailing only Javier Castellano with 41 and Luis Saez second with 36.
Rainbow 6 Carryover: $515,498.58.
