Nine Fillies to Contest Turfway’s Cincinnati Trophy Stakes
FLORENCE, Ky., Feb. 1, 2013 – Nine 3-year-old fillies have signed up for the $50,000 Cincinnati Trophy Stakes at Turfway Saturday, taking perhaps a first step toward the Bourbonette Oaks (G3) at Turfway next month.
On the last day of 2012, in her second career start, Our Jenny B broke her maiden at Turfway at the Cincinnati Trophy’s 6 1/2-furlong distance. Three weeks later she missed a mile optional allowance win by just a head over the same track. She has shown the ability both to rate and to fight for the lead. She gets the outside post and Albin Jimenez in the irons for trainer Louis Hoagland.
Julmae owns the field’s only stakes win, the Showtime Deb in the mud at Hawthorne in November. While the Cincinnati Trophy will be her first start on Turfway’s Polytrack, she broke her maiden by more than six lengths last summer on the Arlington Park Polytrack at seven furlongs. In that race, she set all the pace. In the Showtime Deb, she came from off the pace. Interestingly, her two wins in career seven starts both came with a female rider in the irons, and Amanda Tamburello has the call on Saturday. John Wainwright trains. Julmae is the highweight at 122 pounds. Her competitors will carry 118.
Smittenwithkitten raced at Keeneland and Saratoga as a 2-year-old and faced the tough Gulfstream Park maiden special weight crowd in her two most recent starts. She comes to Turfway still a maiden but ran well at Gulfstream, beaten less than two lengths when fourth two starts back and four lengths when fifth in her most recent start. She comes from far back and could benefit should speed give way. Shane Sellers has the call for trainer Mike Maker.
The field from the rail out: Majestique (jockey Perry Ouzts); Julmae; Dancing Years (Rodney Prescott); Smittenwithkitten; Allanah (Norberto Arroyo Jr.); Brook’s Secret (Ivan Cruz); Stormy Exchange (Luis Martinez Jr.); Liturgy (Ben Creed); and Our Jenny B.
The Cincinnati Trophy is the seventh of 10 races on Turfway’s Saturday card. First post is 1:10 p.m. ET.
