No Lift Shift Gate to Wire; Chamafi Rides Three Winners

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - Kleinubing Racing's No Lift Shift, making his third start across the turf, took the lead leaving the gate and never relinquished it to win Saturday's seventh race, a $44,000 allowance race.

Trained by Manuel Wayer and ridden by apprentice Jonathan Gonzales, No Lift Shift covered a firm 1 1/16 mile turf course in 1:41.27. Armed Forces Stakes winner Alley Oop Oop was second, three-quarters of a length behind the winner, while Fort Lauderdale Handicap (G2) winner Mucho Mas Macho was third.

A 4-year-old son of Put It Back, No Lift Shift returned $15.40.

"He's a nice horse," said Wayar, a former assistant to Angel Penna Jr. "He finished second last time (in his second start across the turf). We figured we'd try him here. Actually, my owner was higher on him than me.

Breaking sharply, No Lift Shift went right to the front under Gonzales and galloped comfortably on the lead throughout. Alley Oop Oop, looking for his third consecutive victory, simply couldn't catch the winner.

"We thought he'd be second or third, but when a horse finds himself on the lead there's no reason to pull him back," Wayar said.
