$100,000 Kitten’s Joy Quotes

Trainer Todd Pletcher (Charming Kitten): “We got a little better trip (than last time). We were a little concerned. Even though there were several horses in the race that run sort of near the front, they weren’t necessarily fast-paced horses. We wanted to get a good stalking position and sit behind comfortable fractions.

“(Bambazonki) kind of leaned in and gave us a little bump at the top of the stretch and kind of knocked us sideways, but we were able to regroup. I think this colt is continuing to improve and putting things together. He’s figuring the game out.

“I guess we’ll stay here and look at the next stake ($150,000 Grade 3 Palm Beach on March 3) and try to keep doing more of the same.”

Owner Ken Ramsey (Charming Kitten): “I’m overjoyed. It’s been a real joy. (Kitten’s Joy) has been doing well on the farm. He had a big book of mares last year, and they’re responding well this year. We’re taking care of him and expect to have him around for another 15 years.”

Jockey John Velazquez (Charming Kitten): "Once I got to the backstretch he did it pretty easily. Last time when I rode him, it took him a little bit to get him going from the 1/2 mile pole to the quarter pole, so I was more aware and tried to leave him alone without taking a hold of him. We got to the half-mile pole, I showed him the whip and he went up to join the front a little too early. I got a hold of him and waited for Bambazonki to come to me. He put up a good fight and made it easy for me."

Trainer Chris Block (Bambazonki): "The race set up perfectly, with a shorter stretch here 3/16 of a mile you have to move on the turn a bit more which kept him a little wide, but coming off the long layoff I thought the horse ran a good race. This is probably the best he has run, and has run real green in the past, whereas today he ran much more professional. I'm very pleased and believe we can move up from here."
