Wise Dan Faces Nine Foes in Shadwell Turf Mile; Deep Field of Eight Entered in First Lady; Solitary Ranger Tops Full Field for 100th Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity

LEXINGTON, KY (Oct. 2, 2013) – Morton Fink’s reigning Horse of the Year, Wise Dan, will face nine rivals Saturday as he goes for a repeat victory in the $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile (G1).

The Shadwell Turf Mile, a “Win and You’re In” race for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) to be run Nov. 2 at Santa Anita, is one of five stakes on Saturday’s 10-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. (ET). The Shadwell Turf Mile will go as the afternoon’s ninth race with a 5:21 p.m. post time.

In addition to the Shadwell Turf Mile, two other Grade 1 races are scheduled Saturday: the $400,000 First Lady for fillies and mares going a mile on the turf and the 100th running of the $400,000 Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity for 2-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles on the main track.

The First Lady is the afternoon’s seventh race with a 4:17 p.m. post time and is followed by the Dixiana Breeders’ Futurity with a 4:49 p.m. post time.

A winner of nine consecutive races and a five-time graded stakes winner at Keeneland, Wise Dan has compiled a record of 18 wins in 25 starts and earnings of more than $5 million. Trained by Charlie LoPresti, Wise Dan has won 10 of 11 races on the grass.

John Velazquez has the riding assignment on Wise Dan, who will break from post position 10.
