Gary Barber and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners’ In Lingerie came out of her two-length victory in Sunday’s$500,000 Juddmonte Spinster (G1) in good order, according to Michael Dilger, assistant to trainer Todd Pletcher.
“She’s fine this morning,” Dilger said of In Lingerie, who gave the Pletcher barn its meet co-leading third victory, which includes two stakes wins. “They are going to make a decision today on whether to stay here or go to California (for the November 2-3 Breeders’ Cup).”
The victory in the Juddmonte Spinster earned In Lingerie a berth in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) to be run November 2 on dirt.
In Lingerie has won all three of her starts on Polytrack. She has won the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) on dirt at Pimlico and placed in two Grade 1s this summer on the dirt at Saratoga.
“There is a plane leaving Louisville Tuesday for California,” Dilger said. “We already have Love and Pride (Ladies’ Classic) and Turbo Compressor (Breeders’ Cup Turf-G1) at Santa Anita with (assistant) Michael McCarthy.
Left in In Lingerie’s wake Sunday was defending race champion Aruna, who finished sixth, beaten 6¾ lengths.
“She came back fine and didn’t have any excuses,” said Heather Craig, assistant to trainer Graham Motion. “She will stay here for a while.”
Ben Colebrook, assistant to trainer Christophe Clement, said Juddmonte Spinster runner-up Mystical Star came out of the race fine and that future plans were undetermined for the filly, who is owned by Cheyenne Stables. Prior to the Juddmonte Spinster, Mystical Star had won her two starts at Keeneland.
Third-place finisher Upperline also exited the race well, according to Hilary Pridham, assistant to trainer Mike Stidham. Upperline gave the Stidham barn a second Grade 1 placing over the weekend, coming on the heels of Willcox Inn’s runner-up finish to Wise Dan in Saturday’s $750,000 Shadwell Turf Mile (G1).
NOMINATIONS TO FOUR STAKES CLOSE WEDNESDAY
Nominations to stakes scheduled to be run October 18-21, highlighted by the $250,000 Lexus Raven Run (G2) on October 20, close Wednesday.
The Lexus Raven Run, for 3-year-old fillies going seven furlongs on the main track, was won last year by Great Hot (BRZ), who prevailed by a head over future multiple Grade 1 winner Groupie Doll.
Other stakes closing are the $100,000 Sycamore (G3) for 3-year-olds and up going 1½ miles on the turf on October 18, the $150,000 Pin Oak Valley View (G3) for 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the turf on October 19 and the $125,000 Rood & Riddle Dowager for fillies and mares going 1½ miles on the turf on October 21.
Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence’s Balance the Books, last-to-first winner of Sunday’s Bourbon (G3), was doing well Monday morning, according to Sean Ryan, assistant to trainer Chad Brown. The victory earned Balance the Books a spot in the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) to be run November 3 at Santa Anita. …
Trainer Al Stall Jr. said that Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm’s Cease, second in Saturday’s Hawthorne Gold Cup (G2), would be pointed to the $400,000-added Clark (G1) at Churchill Downs to be run November 23. “He came back very good off that very deep track,” Stall said of Cease, who endured a wide trip in the six-horse field. …
Trainer Wesley Ward said that plans for Ice Wine Stable’s Sweet Shirley Mae are not set after the filly was scratched from Saturday’s Frizette (G1) at Belmont Park. “The filly next to her (Carameaway) in the gate flipped and scraped her above the knee,” Ward said. “She’s OK and we live to fight another day.”
Adele Dilschneider and Claiborne Farm’s Lea worked a half-mile in :52.20 for trainer Al Stall Jr. in preparation for a start in Saturday’s $200,000 Hawthorne Derby (G3) at 1 1/8 miles on the turf.
