Suffolk Downs to Unveil Racing Improvement Plan
New study shows economic impact of Thoroughbred industry in Massachusetts will increase 57% with a Resort at Suffolk Downs
Tuesday, October 22, 2013 (East Boston, MA) – Clubhouse and grandstand renovations, enhancements to outdoor viewing areas, state-of-the-art technology, construction of new dormitories and additional upgrades to the barn area, and new racing surfaces are all part of Suffolk Downs’ $40 million racing improvement plan, which will be unveiled Thursday at Indian Rock Stables, a Thoroughbred breeding farm located in Saugus, MA. The racing improvement plan is part of Suffolk Downs’ overall proposal to develop a $1 billion world-class resort at the historic 78-year-old racetrack.

WHAT: Suffolk Downs will unveil its plans for $40 million in racing improvements that are included in its proposal to develop a $1 billion world-class resort. Track officials will also discuss the findings of a new study of the current and future economic impact of the Thoroughbred industry in Massachusetts should Suffolk Downs earn a gaming license. The industry currently generates 1,486 jobs and includes 133 farms and more than 6,000 acres of open space.
