Quotes for the $1.5 million Xpressbet Breeders’ Cup Sprint
Jimmy Barnes (assistant to trainer Bob Baffert, Secret Circle, 1st) – “He’s an amazing horse. If you look at his form, you’ll see he’s only been beaten twice. That last race of his, he ran in 1:07 (1:07 4/5) and the race didn’t take anything out of him. He’s a big, strong, resilient horse and the way he had to run today, coming from out of it, just is all the more amazing.”
Mike Smith (jockey, Laugh Track, 2nd) – “I should have lost ground (taken back) and I think I would have won. Cutting the corner, I lost momentum. I think momentum would have been on my side if I had lost the ground.”
Mark Casse (trainer, Laugh Track, 2nd) – “This is the story of my Breeders’ Cups. You can’t ever be unhappy when a horse runs the kind of race he ran. They run the Filly & Mare Sprint at seven-eighths, gee, I wish they ran this race at seven-eighths. He ran a great race.”
Harry Rosenblum (owner, Gentlemen’s Bet, 3rd) – “I’m happy. I told myself I wouldn’t be disappointed if we ran third or better. He’s a great horse. We hope to bring him back here next year.”
Javier Castellano (jockey, Gentlemen’s Bet, 3rd) – “He ran a great race today. He was running very smoothly down the backside. When the hole opened on the rail (inside of Sum of the Parts), we went on because I didn’t want to take a chance of getting trapped inside by tiring horses. When we got to the quarter-pole, I still had a lot of horse and I thought I was going to win, but those other two horses just flew on by me. I was pleased with him.”
