Stakes Advance: Magic City Classic & Kudzu Juvenile

ABAMA LIGHT BACK TO DEFEND MAGIC CITY CLASSIC WIN; KUDZU JUVENILE FOR ALABAMA-BREDS ALSO ON TAP

NEW ORLEANS (Thursday, December 5, 2013) – Taylor Nelson’s Abama Light is set to defend last year’s winning effort in Saturday’s $50,000 Magic City Classic at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots but faces several worthy challengers in the one mile and 70 yard stakes restricted to Alabama-bred 3-years-old and up.

The 4-year-old filly trained by Eric Nelson has not won since winning last year’s running and finished fourth in her last start at Delta Downs in a sprint race Oct. 26, but will have the riding services of jockey Jamie Theriot this weekend. Theriot has already cracked stakes competition, with a winning ride on Martin Racing Stable’s Marchman in last Saturday’s $75,000 Woodchopper Stakes.

Michael Annechino’s Busted Account, claimed in his last outing, is now in the hands of Jonas Gibson and will get strong support with Fair Grounds’ three-time defending jockey champion Rosie Napravnik in the saddle.

John A. Beck’s Anchored Back, a 5-year-old horse who raced wide throughout in last year’s Magic City, appears to have overcome that habit and won in $15,000 non-winners-of-three-company two starts back at Evangeline Downs on Aug. 29. Marvin Holland trains.

Bobby Pruitt’s homebred B. G.’s Admiral, conditioned by Eric Heitzmann, has been competitive recently in non-winners of one-other-than-allowance company at Delta Downs going two turns and has the riding services of Richard Eramia.

KUDZU JUVENILE FOR ALABAMA-BREDS ALSO ON TAP—The $25,000 Kudzu Juvenile, a 5 ½-furlong sprint for Alabama-bred 2-year-olds, is co-featured on Saturday’s 11-race Fair Grounds program and has drawn a field of five headed by Gus King’s Strike for Gold, trained by Scott Gelner with Chester Bonnet aboard.
