Gulfstream Today - 12-12-12
Lead: Chester Bishop’s 3-year-old Florida homebred colt Shock’emagain, last seen under colors breaking his maiden at Calder in late May when making his sixth career start before winning, returned to the races Wednesday afternoon at Gulfstream Park and won by a length in the $54,500 allowance feature.
“I’ve only had him for about three weeks,” said Fawkes of Shock’emagain. “He had some kind of leg injury after his last race and needed time to heal. I wasn’t really surprised that he ran so well with the way he trained. We’ll look around for the right spot for him next.”
A chestnut son of Exclusive Quality, Shock’emagain paid $9.80 for $2 to win and was timed in 1:11:25 over the ‘fast’ track.
Who’s Hot: Jockey Corey Lanerie got his afternoon off to a fast start sweeping the early Daily Double with Harling’s Darling ($3.40) and Haunted ($8.20).
Work of the Day: Stonestreet Stable’s 2-year-old filly Kauai Kate breezed five furlongs in 1:01 3/5 Wednesday morning at Palm Meadows for trainer Todd Pletcher as she prepares for her likely 2013 debut in the $100,000 Old Hat Stakes (G3) on New Year’s Day at Gulfstream Park.
A daughter of Malibu Moon purchased for $490,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Florida sale of 2-year-olds, Kauai Katie finished fourth last out in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa Anita on Nov. 2 after winning her first three career starts in New York, including the Adirondack Stakes (G2) at Saratoga and Matron Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park.
Rainbow 6 Carryover: $36,902.64
