A RINGER WILL BE WORTH $100,000 AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS SATURDAY

ALBANY -- Fans that plan to attend the races at Golden Gate Fields Saturday should not only handicap the horses, but also work on their horseshoe pitch.

Golden Gate Fields will host a St. Patrick’s Day Horseshoe Pitch and the first person to throw a ringer will win $100,000. Ten lucky fans will be chosen by raffle to participate in the contest.

Patrons will receive an entry card upon entering the track and must deposit their cards into one of the green contest bins by 2:30 p.m. A raffle will determine the 10 contestants for the horseshoe pitch as well as the order in which they will toss.

The first five qualifiers will make their tosses following the fifth race and will be limited to one throw each. The first person to make a ringer gets the $100,000 jackpot. If none of the first five qualifiers throw a ringer, then the second group of five will make their tosses following the sixth race.

In the event a ringer eludes all 10 contestants, the person with the horseshoe closest to the stake will win a turf club package for four to Golden Gate Fields.

Golden Gate Fields will present a nine-race card Saturday and the program begins with an obvious hunch play – Oh Molly Brannigan, who will break from post position one in race one. Later in the card, Irish-bred Sheekey will compete in the sixth race.

Post time Saturday is 12:45 p.m. and Golden Gate Fields will be serving up green beers for St. Patrick’s Day revelers.

The racing week begins Thursday and continues through Sunday. Post time each day is 12:45 p.m.
