Adirondack Summer Best In Dania Beach

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Peter Deutsch’s Adirondack Summer, making his third career start and first as a 3-year-old, rallied Sunday under jockey Alan Garcia and got up in the final jump to win the $100,000 Dania Beach by a nose over Brilliant Speed.

Trained by Christophe Clement, Adirondack Summer covered a firm mile turf course 1:34.44. It was Garcia’s second stakes win of the weekend. He won the Sugar Swirl (G3) Saturday aboard Tar Heel Mom.

A son of Thunder Gulch, Adirondack Summer broke his maiden at Belmont in October at seven furlongs on the turf before finishing second in an optional claimer at Aqueduct Nov. 24 while going a mile on the grass. In the Dania Beach, Adirondack Summer raced last in the nine-horse field behind fractions of :23.53 and :46.74 before rallying around the turn and down the stretch.

Swift Warrior, who finished fourth, was disqualified to eighth.

Trainer Christophe Clement (Adirondack Summer): “He was very unlucky not to have won his last start (second). I was concerned that he was as far back as he was early in the race, but with the pace up front (fast), it worked out for the best. I haven’t thought about his next race. We’ll enjoy this one for now.”

Jockey Alan Garcia (Adirondack Summer): “That was great. It’s been a good weekend. My horse didn’t break that sharp so I was patient and waited for the quarter pole to ask my horse. He did a very good job.”
