ALVARADO WINS ANOTHER STAKES AT GGF
ALBANY -- Jockey Frank Alvarado recorded his third straight stakes win at Golden Gate Fields Saturday when he guided Lady Railrider to a come-from-behind victory in the $75,000 Pacific Heights Stakes.
Alvarado started his stakes winning streak on Nov. 22 when he captured the Sausalito with Siren Lure ($12.60). Six days later, Alvarado won the Forty Niner Stakes aboard Dakota Phone ($6.20) and promptly predicted he'd be back in the winner's circle following the Pacific Heights.
Lady Railrider was the third choice in the betting at 5-to-2 and paid $7.60. The two favorites in the wagering, Tutta Bella (3-to-2) and You Lift Me Up (2-to-1), finished fifth and fourth, respectively.
"I told you I'd be back," said a smiling Alvarado, referring to his prediction. "I just tried to be patient. At the three-eighths I knew the leaders were done and I had a lot of horse."
Lady Railrider is trained by Steve Specht and owned by Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams. The 3-year-old filly by Ride the Rails earned $45,000 for her first career stakes victory.
"She's come along really well," said Specht. "The filly can route, sprint, she's easy to train and she's a good doer. I will nominate her to the Sunshine Millions Distaff (Jan. 24 at Santa Anita)."
WILD PROMISES WINS MY CHARMER 'CAP -- Golden Gate Fields-based Wild Promises scored an impressive front-running victory Saturday in the Grade 3 $100,000 My Charmer Handicap at Calder Race Course in Miami.
Trained by Greg Gilchrist and owned by the Estate of Harry J. Aleo, Wild Promises won the 1 1/8-mile turf race for fillies and mares by a length over Callwood Dancer in 1:47.78. Jockey Aaron Gryder was aboard Wild Promises, who paid $12.60.
Wild Promises, a 4-year-old daughter of Wild Event, recorded her 11th victory in 16 career starts. The ultra-consistent filly also has four seconds and a third.
Gilchrist said Wild Promises would likely return to Florida next month for the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf, which will be run Jan.24 at Gulfstream Park.
