Another ‘Classy’ showing for Moonlit Beauty?

TORONTO, September 27 – Moonlit Beauty, who eked out a gutsy score in the Victoriana Stakes last month, goes for her second consecutive win, when she faces seven rivals in Sunday’s $125,000 Classy ‘n Smart Stakes, at Woodbine.

After securing her eighth lifetime victory courtesy of a head triumph in the 1 1/16-mile (turf) Victoriana on August 18, Moonlit Beauty will look to improve upon her second-place finish in last year’s Classy ‘n Smart when she finished second, 2 ¼ lengths behind Bear Its Time in the 1 1/16-mile Polytrack feature.

Trainer John LeBlanc Jr. believes the six-year-old daughter of Perigee Moon is primed for another strong showing.

“She came out of her last victory in great form,” he said. “She finished second in this race last year, so this is a logical spot. I believe she will be tough to beat.”

Eurico Rosa da Silva will once again be in the irons for owner-breeder William Gierkink.

Colebrook Farms’ Reconnect, second to Moonlit Beauty in the Victoriana, and 70-1 winner of last year’s La Prevoyante Stakes, will look for her fifth win in what will be her twelfth lifetime start.

It’s Gail, second to stablemate Nikkis Bold Gelato in this year’s La Prevoyante, will look to add another added-money win to her resume after notching a victory in the Eternal Search Stakes in August.

Niigon’s Touch, a three-time winner from five starts, who was scheduled to return to racing action after being on the sidelines for 13 months, won’t contest the Classy ‘n Smart.

“Her last work wasn’t what we were expecting,” said trainer Paul Attard, of the four-year-old daughter of Queen’s Plate winner, Niigon, who suffered a small fracture in her hind leg early last fall. “In the best interest of the horse, we thought it was best to send her back to the farm and assess the situation. She had trained well prior to that, but we need to do the right thing.”

The Classy ‘n Smart is carded as race eight. The $100,000 Avowal, set for seven furlongs on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course, goes as race six
