Ans back at Abu Dhabi

Racing returns to Abu Dhabi this Sunday with a seven race card kindly sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and highlighted by a 1400m Thoroughbred handicap for which the weights are headed by the Dhruba Selvaratnam-trained Ans Bach.

Winner of the 2007 HH The President’s Cup, over the same course and distance, he was second over 1600m at Abu Dhabi on his return and clearly likes the Capital’s course.

Jockey William Buick is hopeful: “He ran very well for me when second and the furlong shorter should suit. He has to give weight away but can hopefully go well.”

Erwan Charpy saddles four with Richard Hills riding Aqmaar and Tadhg O’Shea on Gongidas, while Rashed Bouresly’s Fleurie is another interesting runner.

The other six races are for the Purebred Arabians and the most valuable of these is the penultimate race, a 1600m handicap.

Michael Kettle’s Adeem won last time and should be in the shake-up but meets 13 rivals including Saifaldin Deeb’s pair Rachidia and Hilal Al Eid who both run their most recent outings also.

The 1400m conditions race for fillies and mares could be fought out by Gill Duffield’s Af Mahab Alshamal and Jaci Wickham’s Jadhebeh W’Rsan, while racing concludes with a second conditions race, over 2200m.

Saifaldin Seeb’s Jinad could be the one to beat.
