BACKBACKBACKGONE FAVORED IN GOLD RUSH STAKES
ALBANY -- Backbackbackgone, a winner of three of his four career starts, is the one to beat in the $75,000 Gold Rush Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.
The Gold Rush is a one-mile race for 2-year-olds that will be run on the synthetic Tapeta racing surface. The feature is the eighth race on a nine-race program that begins at 12:45 p.m.
Backbackbackgone made his debut at Bay Meadows last spring and rambled to a 10-length victory in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden allowance race. Two weeks later, the colt scored a four-length win in the 5 1/2-furlong Willard Proctor Memorial at Hollywood Park.
Backbackbackgone was given a short vacation following the Proctor and didn't race again until October, when he came off the bench to win the six-furlong Jack Goodman Stakes at Santa Anita by a nose.
Backbackbackgone's winning streak came to an end when he finished fifth in the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue Stakes on Nov. 23. Backbackbackgone ran a big race in the seven-furlong Hollywood Prevue as he battled for the lead to deep stretch and was only beaten 2 1/2 lengths by winner Jack o' Lantern.
A Florida-bred son of Put It Back, Backbackbackgone is owned in partnership by Gerson Racing, Charleville Stables and John Rogitz. Backbackbackgone will break from post position one in the Gold Rush, which will mark his first trip around two turns.
The field for the Gold Rush, in post position order, is as follows: Backbackbackgone, Landeros rides; Free Action, Leslie Mawing; Cut The Check, Francisco Duran; Adriatic Moon, Russell Baze; Merus Miami, Alex Bisono; A K Racer, Roberto Gonzalez; Run It, Kyle Kaenel; African Diamond, Brice Blanc; and Skimasco, Frank Alvarado. All of the starters carry 120 pounds.
