BAHAMA BREEZE AIMS FOR SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN IN ON TRUST

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Dec. 12, 2008) — Undefeated Bahama Breeze will ship south in search of his sixth victory in Sunday’s $75,000 On Trust Handicap at Hollywood Park.

Bahama Breeze, claimed for $40,000 while winning his career bow on Jan. 12 at Golden Gate Fields, has added four wins since joining the barn of trainer Steve Miyadi. The bay son of Lord Carson has been favored in three of those races, the exception when he shipped to Santa Anita Park to win a state-bred allowance race in February.

The 25th running of the On Trust represents a stern test for the 3-year-old, who will be traveling 7 ½ furlongs for the first time in a well-matched field of seven California-breds, which lines up as follows from the rail out:

Bahama Breeze, Martin Garcia up, carries 116 pounds; Partywithlarryz, Rafael Bejarano, 114; Dancing in Silks, Joel Rosario, 117; Unusual Suspect, Victor Espinoza, 116; Lit’sgoodlookngray, Martin Pedroza, 115; Nikki’sgoldensteed, Jon Court, 116, and Star Nicholas, Michael Baze, 116.

Dancing in Silks is in excellent form with three wins, a second and a third in seven starts for trainer Carla Gaines. Facing open company in his last start, he finished second behind 2007 CashCall Futurity winner Into Mischief in the seven-furlong Damascus Stakes at Santa Anita.

Unusual Suspect, a 4-year-old son of Unusual Heat, is the most experienced in the field with six wins in 31 starts for earnings of $517,592. Each of his victories has come on turf, where he finished seventh most recently while defending his title in the Grade III Hollywood Turf Express.

Star Nicholas has won two of four starts at Hollywood Park, including a state-bred allowance race in May at 7 ½ furlongs with Patywithlarryz finishing third; Lit’sgoodlookngray has five wins in 28 starts including his most recent in a six-furlong allowance race here in November, and Nikki’s Goldensteed won the Turf Paradise Derby in February and finished second in the El Camino Real Derby in March.

The On Trust Handicap will run as the eighth race on Sunday’s nine-race program at Hollywood Park. First post time is 12:30 pm.
