Bartolome Scratched from Florida Derby
HALLANDALE BEACH, FL - ARS Racing Stable’s Bartolome, a 30-to-1 morning line longshot in Saturday afternoon’s $1 million Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park, was scratched mid-morning because of a bruised foot, according to trainer Jose Garoffalo.
“We could tell he wasn’t right when he came out of his stall first thing this morning,” said Garoffalo from his Calder Race Course headquarters. “He’s got a bruised foot. It is not serious, but just bad timing. He’ll be fine. We just have to take care of it.”
Garoffalo will saddle Peras International’s 3-year-old filly Yara in the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G3), the race before the Florida Derby. The daughter of Put It Back won the $250,000 Davona Dale Stakes (G2) over the track here last out on Feb. 25.
