Bernstein Colt Highlights Friday Session Of Keeneland September Sale

Lexington, KY (September 19, 2008) – Friday’s session of Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale was highlighted by the sale of a Bernstein colt for $195,000 to Gulf Coast Farm.

Consigned by Buck Pond Farm (Douglas S. Arnold), agent, the colt is out of the Carson City mare Sparkler, and from the family of graded stakes winners Softly, Coragil Cat and Til Forbid.

On Friday, Keeneland sold 276 horses for $6,203,400, down 25.6 percent from a year ago when 289 horses brought $8,332,500. Average price for the day of $22,476 was down 22 percent from last year’s comparable session average of $28,832. The median price of $15,000 was down 25 percent from the $20,000 posted in 2007.


Through day 11 of the 15-day sale, Keeneland has sold 2,768 horses for $319,287,900, down 14.1 percent from last year’s $371,887,100. The average of $115,350 dipped 11.6 percent from the $130,487 recorded in 2007. The median of $60,000 was down 10.4 from $67,000 last year.

A colt from the first crop of Forest Danger brought the day’s second-highest price of $170,000, paid by Off the Hook. The colt, consigned by Gracefield, is a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner and sire D’Wildcat.

Keeneland’s September Yearling Sale continues through Tuesday. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. daily.
