BIG BROWN “LOOKS GREAT” FOLLOWING HASKELL SCORE
Oceanport, N.J. - Less than one day after winning North America's richest invitational, The Grade 1 $1 million Haskell Presented by Vonage at Monmouth Park, Big Brown "looks great", according to trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. Big Brown left Monmouth Park at approximately 10:15 this morning for a van ride back to his Aqueduct headquarters. It is unclear what lies ahead for the dual classic winner.
"We'll take a closer look at him later this afternoon and then worry about down the line", said Dutrow, who conditions the 3-year-old Boundary colt out of the Nureyev mare Mien. "Once we see how he came out of it, we'll start to look ahead."
"Our operation was thrilled about Monmouth Park and the crowd yesterday," commented Dutrow. "Hearing everyone give a big cheer for Big Brown was great. We couldn't be happier."
Owned by IEAH Stables, Paul Pompa Jr., Gary Tolchin, Andrew Cohen and Pegasus Holding Group, Big Brown earned $600,000 in yesterday's victory to push his career earnings to $3,314,500.
Big Brown, the public's choice, paid $2.40, $2.10, and $2.10 across the board. Early pacesetter Coal Play capped off the $25.20 exacta and paid $8.00 to place and $4.20 to show. Cool Coal Man finished third paying $2.80 to show.
Live racing returns to Monmouth Park Wednesday, August 6 with a first post of 12:50 p.m. The 2008 racing season continues through Sunday, September 28.
