Brushed by a Star Beats the Boys in Sunday Feature

LOUISVILLE, KY (Sunday, June 10, 2012) - Team Forster's Brushed by a Star, a 4-year-old bay daughter of Eddington, refused to surrender the lead to her male rivals and beat the boys in the $62,448 Sunday afternoon feature at Churchill Downs.

Brushed by a Star raced in second behind 2-1 favorite Chilled for the first furlong and then took the lead on the clubhouse turn. Under Brian Hernandez Jr., Brushed by a Star recorded fractions of :24.12, :48.06 and 1:12.77. She opened up a length advantage in the stretch and held off late rallies by Afford and Chilled to cross the line three-quarters of a length in front in a final time of 1:44.88 for the 1 1/16 miles on the fast main track.

Trained by Grant Forster, Brushed by a Star made her first start against males a winning one and earned $37,500 for the victory, which increased her career bankroll to $124,087 with a record of 3-4-2 from 14 starts.

Brushed by a Star returned $35.20, $14.60 and $7.20. Afford, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, finished second and returned $4.80 and $3.20 with Chilled, under the Spring Meet's leading rider Corey Lanerie, finishing another half-length back in third and returning $3.20 to show.

Racing resumes Thursday with a nine-race program that will feature a Pick 6 carryover of $3,420 and a Super Hi-5 carryover of $18,835. The Pick 6 will begin with Race 4 at 2:16 p.m. (all times Eastern) and the Super Hi-5 will be contested on the finale at 4:54 p.m. Post time for the first race is 12:45 p.m.
