Busy Day for Plesa & Wolfson Stables Saturday on Two Fronts

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (July 11, 2008) - Veteran trainers Eddie Plesa, Jr. and Marty Wolfson will be in action with stakes runners on two fronts Saturday, both with multiple contenders on the rich ‘Summit of Speed’ program at Calder Race Course, and Graded stakes-winners running in major events at Monmouth Park and Delaware Park that afternoon.

Plesa has six horses entered in four races at Calder, including the one-two choices in the $55,000 Frank Gomez Memorial for 2-year-olds with J. Robert Harris, Jr.’s Bee Cee Cee and Padua Stable’s Ideal Exchange, and Joel Kligman’s 2-year-old filly Jungle Jill among the favorites in the $55,000 JJ’s Dream Stakes.


Plesa also has horses entered in four races at Monmouth Park Saturday from his summer division of nearly 40 runners there, led by Bea Oxenberg’s 3-year-old Hey Byrn in the $150,000 Long Branch Stakes (G3). The son of Put It Back made all four of his starts last year at Calder. Hey Byrn makes his first appearance since finishing seventh behind Big Brown in the Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico on May 17.

Although Plesa will not have a runner in any of the ‘Big Four’ Graded stakes on ‘Summit’ day at Calder, he does have two veterans of the 2005 and 2007 editions of the Carry Back Stakes (G2) in the entries this weekend.

Trilogy Stable’s 6-year-old Qureall finished second to Lost in the Fog in the 2005 renewal and is entered in the fifth race at Monmouth Saturday while Qureall’s 4-year-old full- brother Yesbyjimminy, third in last year’s Carry Back behind Black Seventeen and Teuflesberg, is entered in today’s ninth race allowance feature at Calder.

Wolfson fields a strong Calder home team of three contenders in the ‘Big Four’ Graded stakes on ‘Summit’ day with Live Oak Plantation’s 4-year-old gelding Rockerfeller facing favorite Benny the Bull in the $400,000 Smile Sprint Handicap (G2), Miklin Stable’s 5-year-old mare Dixie Dreamer in the $400,000 Princess Rooney Handicap (G1) and M375 Thoroughbreds and partners’ 3-year-old colt Golden Spikes in the Carry Back.

Wolfson also has Denholtz Stable’s 3-year-old filly Shes All Eltish at Delaware Park to run in the $500,000 Delaware Oaks (G2) Saturday afternoon. The daughter of Eltish made the first three starts of her career here during the Tropical Meet, breaking her maiden on Jan. 2 going a mile on turf.

Shes All Eltish emerged as a major player in her division winning the Bonnie Miss Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park in late March by 6 ¾ lengths and finished second with trouble last out in the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) at Pimlico on May 16. In between those two main track events, she finished fourth to Ginger Brew in the Calder Oaks here on April 26.
