Oceanport, N.J. – Mat Stables LLC’s Call First moved quickly to the lead around the far turn and opened up his advantage through the stretch to post a 4 ½ length score in the $32,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Saturday.

Trained by Patricia Farro, Call First covered the mile and 70 yards over a fast main track in 1:42.29 and returned $7, $2.80 and $2.40. Kid Sidney, the favorite in the field of seven geldings, completed the $18 exacta and paid $2.60 and $2.40. It was another head back to Nebikon, who paid $4 to show.

“I broke good,” said winning jockey Ryan Curatolo. “I knew the horse that went to the lead (Nebikon) would be in front, so I sat behind and waited. At the quarter pole I started to get my position and he began to move. When I got to the eighth pole he was already in front and when he changed leads he just opened up. He did everything right.”
A 4-year-old by A.P. Indy from the Storm Cat mare Connie Belle, Call First sports a lifetime record of 4-3-2 from 15 starts.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Sunday, Sept. 9 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:45 p.m.
