INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 3, 2012)—The first round of nominations for the CashCall Futurity and the Hollywood Starlet have risen for a third consecutive year, according to Martin Panza, Betfair Hollywood Park’s racing secretary and vice president-racing.

Early noms for the CashCall Futurity, a Grade I for 2-year-olds which has a guaranteed purse of $750,000, total 284 –pending late mail - compared to 250 in 2011 and 225 in 2010. The Futurity, which is sponsored by J. Paul Reddam, the owner of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner I’ll Have Another, will be run for the 32nd time Saturday, Dec. 15.

There are 249 early nominations –pending late mail - for the Starlet, a Grade I for 2-year-old fillies which will have a sizable purse increase in 2012.

A $200,000-added race in 2011, the Startlet will be $500,000 guaranteed when it is run for the 32nd time Saturday, Dec. 8. There were 163 early nominations for the Starlet in 2010 and 198 last year.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, who won his record sixth CashCall Futurity with Liaison last Dec. 17, has 35 early nominations for the race while Doug O’Neill, who will try to complete the Triple Crown sweep with I’ll Have Another in the Belmont Stakes Saturday, has 10.

Another Hall of Fame trainer who has nominated to both the CashCall Futurity and Starlet is D. Wayne Lukas. He’s had success in both, winning the Starlet a record seven times and the Futurity on four occasions. Lukas’ most recent Starlet victory came with Surfside in 1999. Tactical Cat provided his last Futurity win in 1998.

“We’re very pleased with the amount of nominations for both the CashCall Futurity and Hollywood Starlet,’’ said Panza. “These races should serve as quality anchors to the final two weeks of our Autumn meet (which will begin Thursday, Nov. 8).

“Betfair Hollywood Park is also extremely grateful for the continued support from CashCall and J. Paul Reddam. It’s because of the continued sponsorship that the CashCall Futurity is one of the premier races for 2-year-olds in the United States.’’

Sustaining payments for both the CashCall Futurity and Hollywood Starlet – which will be run at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track – are due on or before Friday, July 6.
