CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE CAPTURES MY FRENCHMAN STAKES
Oceanport, N.J. – Carl Moore Management’s Chamberlain Bridge drew off down the lane to post a 2 ½ length victory in the $60,000 My Frenchman Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Paco Lopez, the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner covered the about 5 ½ furlong distance over firm turf in 1:01 4/5 and returned $4.40, $3 and $2.60 as the 6-5 favorite in the field of nine. Ju Jitsu Jax completed the $36.60 exacta and paid $7 to place and $4 to show. It was another half-length back to Just Chillin Boss, who paid $4.20 to show.
The win was the first in two starts this year for Chamberlain Bridge and the 19th in 44 career races. The winner’s share of the purse boosted the bankroll for the 8-year-old son of War Chant out of the Trempolino mare She’s Got Class to $1,809,135.
“I thought he ran great,” said winning trainer Bret Calhoun. “That’s the kind of race we needed. He got a good trip. He left there good and got into good position early. He really likes to do most of his running turning for home. He was clear when he turned for home and just accelerated and won pretty easy.”
Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Sunday, August 5- gates open at 11:30 am and first post is 12:45 pm. A Pick 5 carryover of more than $30,000 will await horseplayers beginning in Sunday’s sixth race.
