Daring Reality may be peaking at right time
Stanton, Del., June 1, 2011 — David and Margaret Wimer’s Daring Reality tops a field of five in the mile-and-70-yard $75,000 Go For Wand Stakes at Delaware Park this Saturday. The Go For Wand, named after the 1989 2-year-old filly and 1990 3-year-old filly champion locally owned by Christiana Stables, is the local prep for the mile-and-a sixteenth $300,000 Grade II Delaware Oaks to be run on July 9.
In her most recent, Daring Reality posted a 1½-length score at odds of 23.30-to-1 in the one-mile-and-70-yard $60,000 Wanda Stakes at Belmont Park on May 8.
Previously, the daughter of Include ran unplaced in a one-mile turf allowance at Pimlico on April 7. On February 20, the Kentucky-bred ran second beaten, 8-lengths in the mile-and-70-yard $65,000 Busher Stakes at Aqueduct. In her other start this year, she ran third, beaten 3 ½-lengths in the mile-and-70-yard $65,000 Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct on January 8. Last year, she did not break her maiden until her third career start, but that was her first outing going a distance.
“Going long with her was our plan with her all along,” said Lynch. “She is by Include and getting long 2-year-old maiden races to go can be difficult. But, in her first start, she got wiped out at the start and really had no chance. In her second start, she ran into a real bear and finished second to Quantum Miss. In her third and fourth starts, she really came into her own going longer. She did not run big numbers, but she did it very professionally. We have always liked her, and she has always been a pleasure to be around.”
A solid effort in the Go For Wand should earn Daring Reality a start in the Delaware Oaks.
“Absolutely, if she runs well in the Go For Wand, she will back for the Delaware Oaks,” said Lynch. “We just want to make sure she will like the track, but if all goes well, she we will be back for the Oaks.”
The top three finishers in the Go For Wand Stakes earn a free nomination to the Delaware Oaks.
