“Daybreak at Del Mar” Bargain Special for Summer Weekends
Racing fans and all San Diegans once again will have a different -- and inexpensive -- way to start off their weekends throughout the summer with the return of "Daybreak at Del Mar" during the 37-day meeting at Del Mar’s seaside course.
From 7:30 to 9:30 each Saturday and Sunday morning the track presents a sunny outdoor setting next to the ocean to enjoy breakfast and watch beautiful Thoroughbreds strut their stuff in their workouts and gallops. There is no admission charge to the sessions, held at the track’s Clubhouse Terrace Restaurant overlooking the stretch.
In addition, fans watching the morning drills get special insights from former rider Jeff Bloom, who points out notable horses on the track, offers tips on how to enjoy a day at the races and answers questions pertaining to the sport. Bloom currently does media work for Del Mar and is also the western vice president for the racing partnership group West Point Thoroughbreds, which sponsors the breakfast sessions.
"Daybreak" began at Del Mar in 2000 with Saturday morning breakfast only, but grew rapidly in popularity and was expanded to its current format.
Early Bird wagering is available to those attending "Daybreak." Fans are encouraged to park in the track’s main lot off of Jimmy Durante Blvd and go through the Clubhouse entrance to the restaurant on the second floor. There is an $8 parking fee, but the fee will be subtracted from the bill of those buying two or more breakfasts.
Del Mar’s 70th season begins on Wednesday, July 22 and continues until Wednesday, September 9.
