de Kock in Secret Jebel Ali Sprint bid
Friday's Jebel Ali meeting features a cracking renewal of the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint, over 1000m and sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Shadwell Farm.
Hammadi won the race last year for Doug Watson, who also has Alsadeek in the field this year, when chased home by Frosty Secret and Alo Pura who both renew rivalry.
Watson is also hopeful: "Both horses are proven on the course so we have to hope they will run well but it does look a strong renewal of the race."
Dangers are aplenty and Ali Rashid Al Raihe has enjoyed a remarkable season and Montpellier loves this course and has been in great form all season. He would appear a more likely winner than stable companion Al Qasi.
Satish Seemar's Terrific Challenge won the prep race, while So Shiny, winner of last year's UAE 1000 Guineas for Saudi Arabia is a fascinating contender for Jerry Barton. If coping with this drop in trip she should go close.
Kieren Fallon is an interesting booking for Dohasa, while Conquest is another to consider in what appears a wide open renewal.
The 1400m conditions race is also a quality affair and Dhruba Selvaratnam, who trains on the course, will be hoping that Otaared can retain his unbeaten course and distance record. Both his local wins have been achieved on this straight course and he looks the one to beat, though Carnival winners Alazeyab and Barbecue Eddie are among a host of alternatives in an intriguing contest.
The last named represents Watson who also has Clasp, Embalo and Marching Time in the field and said: "They are all fit and well and we are running out of options with them so this race suits them. Hopefully we can get a win on the board."
De Kock saddles Biarritz and is exceptionally busy in the 1950m handicap with Dettori on Wonder Lawn. Fallon rides Art of War and these two appeal more than stable companion Red Rock Canyon.
Selvaratnam's Mulaqat and Watson's Bur Dubai appear the main dangers.
