ALBANY -- The promising 3-year-old Diamond of Blue recorded his third victory in four starts when he defeated Downtown C. T. by three-quarters of a length in the $31,980 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.

Diamond of Blue, ridden by Juan Hernandez, easily took the lead from pacesetter Sherman Bartlebort entering the stretch and then dug in gamely to hold off Downtown C. T. in the six-furlong sprint. Reconstruction finished third.

Diamond of Blue was timed in 1:10.95 and paid $3.20 as the 3-to-5 favorite in a field of five. Diamond of Blue was coming off a third-place finish behind the talented runners Nonios and Unveiled Heat in a one-mile allowance test on March 10.

Bud Klokstad trains Diamond of Blue, a Kentucky-bred son of Sharp Humor. Owned in partnership by John and Janene Maryanski and Gerald Schneider, Diamond of Blue earned $18,000 and has made $42,480 in his four races.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday with a Dollar Day card that features $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, and $1 sodas. Post time for the nine-race program is 12:45 p.m.
