DISTANT VICTORY WINS DEL MAR HEADLINER

Distant Victory, the 3-5 favorite under jockey Victor Espinoza, wore down pacemaking longshot In My Glory in a prolonged stretch battle to win Thursday’s feature at Del Mar, a mile and one-eighth contest over the infield Jimmy Durante Turf Course.

Distant Victory, owned by Gross and Harris Farms and trained by Carla Gaines, was always prominent in the race, engaged In My Glory and jockey Martin Garcia in the upper stretch and proved best by three-quarters of a length.

Restless Soul closed well to be third, three-quarters of a length back of the runner-up and 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Le Cirque in the field of nine older fillies and mares.

Distant Victory, a three-year-old daughter of Distant View bred in California, ran the distance in a solid 1:47.68 and returned $3.40, $2.80 and $2.40 after recording her third triumph in four starts.

In My Glory, sent to the gate at 11-1, paid $9.20 and $5.80, while Restless Soul paid $3.20 to show.

Thursday’s attendance was 10,750.
